Read moreWe’ve been visiting Sweden for many years and have a summerhouse in Skåne — the country has completely captured our hearts. The peaceful pace of life, the beautiful landscapes, and the welcoming (though initially reserved) people make it truly special.
One of our favorite places to take friends is Kulturen in Lund. It’s an open-air museum right in the heart of this charming university town. Lund itself feels like a large village — relaxed, full of character, and rich in architecture. It’s also home to companies like Ericsson and Tetra Pak, but still retains a cozy, small-town feel.
At Kulturen, you can explore historic Swedish farmhouses and buildings, many of which are furnished to show how people once lived. Some even have sound effects — don’t miss the buzzing fly in the soup bowl! It’s immersive and fun, not just for adults but also for kids.
The highlight for us is the wooden church — a peaceful, candle-scented space with a beautiful antique organ and simple stained-glass windows. It’s atmospheric, serene, and really transports you to another time.
Afterwards, be sure to enjoy a coffee and pastry in one of Lund’s excellent cafés or bakeries nearby.
If you’re in southern Sweden, Kulturen is a must-see — a perfect mix of history,...

The main building has 3 floors of artifacts and displays, and so do 3 other large buildings in the open-air section. Granted, there's nowhere near as much writing in the other buildings, but they still take a lot longer than the couple of minutes you might spend looking around one of the little thatched-roof peasant houses. The cafe is pretty good to - their chocolate balls...
