This was my second visit at this location. I had dined here previously years ago and really enjoyed it then. I chose this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary and I'm sad I did. The atmosphere is great for a romantic dinner but the service and food quality is not great at all.
Starting with the service, our waitress was kind and courteous until we were seated. After that, it seemed like she forgot about us. We ordered and waited for our food. It took a really long time for our starter to come and when they came they were lukewarm and undercooked. We finished our starters and went back to the waiting game. We waited a really long time for our main course to come and again, when it arrived it was almost cold. During this whole time, we had no one check in on us or top up our drinks. We had to be frugal with our wine because we feared that we wouldn't have enough for the whole meal. We would have ordered more wine but no one came around to ask us.
As for the food, we had the scallops and the white asparagus for starters and the Veal and the cauliflower for our mains. We didn't have dessert because it took so long to get the two meals we did order we decided to go to a neighboring restaurant for our dessert (and I'm glad we did!). As mentioned, the food was lukewarm or cold when it arrived. It was good, but I had higher expectations for a meal in that price range. I also found it very strange that they did not offer any other options for vegetarians. The cauliflower was ok, but a whole head of cauliflower is an odd menu option. I would have like to see some form of poultry on the menu.
My recommendations. I strongly advise that this place trains their servers to be a bit more attentive to it's guests. We would have spent a lot more money, had we only had the opportunity to do so. Like I mentioned, we went to another restaurant nearby for dessert and spent 2000 kr on dessert and drinks alone; the same amount we spent on starters, mains and drinks at Årstiderna. I also recommend to hire more staff. I understand overhead cost and the dynamics of guests dropping in without a reservation but it's not an excuse for letting your guests endure long waiting time, cold food and neglect from servers. Especially not someone who has booked in advanced, hoping for a unique experience. Perhaps prioritize those guests who book in advance? Diversify your menu a bit more. Especially the vegetarian part of it. Your book of drinks is several pages long but your menu option for main courses has 4 meat dishes, 1 seafood dish and 1 vegetarian dish.
After speaking with some locals about our experience, I am sad to hear that this restaurant, once highly regarded as one of Malmö's top restaurants has spiraled down the list to a mediocre but overpriced family diner. There were two servers to about 5 tables and they were very attentive. The food, based on seasonal offerings were enjoyable and they had a bible of a wine selection to choose from.
