Impossible perfect experience
We – A family of 4 (two daughters of 6 and 11) were arriving from Stockholm by train that day scouting for a dinner restaurant in Malmö on Google maps.
When we found this gem, it was of course fully booked so we put ourselves down for the waiting list. When we arrived at the hotel to drop our bags off my wife made a call and managed to secure a table by the bar.
Don’t know if intentional but they had placed the toilets outside of the restaurant, so when we walked in everyone was in the right mood. We entered through a pathway with a beautiful vase lit up in the background. Upon entering the dinner area there was two other groups waiting to get seated and it was generally a busy environment. Never the less I got eye contact after 5 seconds with the waiter who nodded at me with a friendly look that said “Welcome, I see you and we will attend to you soon”.
You could notice that they paid attention to get the details right, dark oak wood furniture, polished black metal details and the light was done giving the place a comfy yet toned down and sleek environment interior.
Shortly after seated we were pleasantly surprised they had both our favorite champagne Louis Roederer by the glass and also the Japanese beer Hitachino on the menu. Both are rare finds in Sweden. This place deserves six stars on Google just because of their drink selection. Every interaction with the waiters was playful and you could almost sense the positive culture in the staff. The food was beautiful and delicious packed with Umami, to the point that we had to stop our kids from licking the plates.
To close the perfection we had the cheesecake and discovered that one of the waiters was from the Basque Country. Having visited last summer we exchanged some recommendations of restaurants in San Sebastián and although the cheesecake here was delicious he told me with pride it is better in Donostia. If you ever had basque cheesecake you’d agree with him.
Then to the best part: 7-8 dishes, 3 glasses of champagne and a beer for 1500 kr. The only complaint I have is that I have to go 6 hours by train from...
Read moreRecently went here for dinner with the father in law. This restaurant has many positives but it has some negatives that become explicitly obvious due to the positives.
Firstly the positives, the staff are friendly, attentive and quick to make visitors feel welcomed. The atmosphere and decor are also well set and chosen for an intimate experience with your fellow restaurant goers. The food is also for the most part very good and I feel the menu creators are passionate about food.
How ever with the above positives, the short comings become very noticeable. I feel everything I'm about to say can be easily fixed and the restaurant would be definitely deserving of five stars. The first problem is the sauces. Particulary the sriracha on the prawn tempura tasted exactly like the store bought. I feel for level of restaurant quan presents itself as, then a sauce should not feel store bought. If it's not then it can be improved upon.
A second issue is the use of a coffee machine. Imagine having a wonderful meal, good talks and ending the night with a bitter, watery stomach upsetting machine coffee. A restaurant of this calibre should invest in a coffee set up and train staff in barista skills. The staff are good and I feel would be confident with some training on coffee machines and latte art.
The restaurant is worth a visit yourself and I plan to come again and see if things improve to really give Quan the undeniable title of being a...
Read moreVisited here during lunch hours on a busy Monday. Already walking into the entrance and into the restaurant had a wow-factor built in. Was quickly attended to by a worker there and given a bar spot. Received a glass and a carafe with water in by the bar worker; plus points! I browsed through the menu and decided to get the meal of the day special. I received my order within 5 minutes, very quick and efficient service. The meal of the day (pictured) was a soy-marinated chicken with rice and an assortment of different toppings. Carrots, bean sprouts, lettuce, etc. There was also a small amount of kewpie mayo hidden behind the mountain of veggies in the picture (wished there was a bit more mayo actually).
The chicken was marinated well and packed with flavor. Juicy and tender; not dry at all, which could happen easily with chicken. My educated guess would be that chicken thighs were used, as that part of the chicken tends to retain the most texture and quality even when cooked.
5-stars all around. Will definitely visit here again during dinner hours to re-evaluate. This is going straight into my 'SHAOTIME MALMÖ BANGERS' food list!
P.S. The price 155kr made it...
