I recently visited Spoonery in Malmö, a restaurant conveniently close to my hotel. I had a great experience on my first visit and ended up dining there twice more, trying a total of six different dishes.
Vegetarian Hotpot: This was my favorite. It had paneer and tasted like a delicious Indian dish—truly heavenly.
Meatballs: While I’m not usually a fan of meatballs, I decided to try the Swedish version from my husband's order. They were fine, but I found them average compared to the high expectations I had. My husband, however, really enjoyed them.
Ribollita: This dish was amazing—rich and full of flavor.
Pluma de Yucatan: Equally impressive and delicious.
Bibimbap: I was excited to try deer meat, but it was served in chunks cut from a shawarma, not in larger pieces. The rice and meat were warm, but the cold salad didn’t match my expectations, setting a lower standard compared to the other dishes.
Ginger n' Lime Pork: The taste was good, but the pork was tough and chewy, which was disappointing.
Overall, the food was consistently good except for the last dish. Spoonery is a popular spot thanks to its delicious, pocket-friendly food, quick service, and friendly staff. They use spices perfectly and serve everything at a good...
Read moreHi I came to Malmö two days ago from the UK, and Spoonery was the first restaurant I visited — unfortunately, it left a very bad first impression. I ordered the meatballs, assuming they were beef, but immediately flinched from the taste. I realised they were made of pork, which I don’t eat for personal and cultural reasons. When I raised this with the staff, I was shocked by the response. The chef didn’t apologise or make any real effort to accommodate me — instead, he told the waiter to buy me another portion. That is not acceptable, especially when all I expected was a simple apology and a switch to a non-pork alternative.
In the UK, we don’t handle dietary concerns like this — it’s about respect and communication. I shared this experience with some locals and staff at my hotel, and they were equally shocked and disappointed by the attitude I was met with. It’s upsetting that my first dining experience in Malmö had to be this unpleasant. I won’t be coming back, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who expects basic respect for their dietary choices. I am so disappointed. I left Sweden and it was the most...
Read moreFirst time I visited this place was in November 2023, on the hunt for delicious Swedish meatballs for takeout and had an amazing experience (also thanks to the friendly folks here!) I was bummed that I couldn’t sit down for dinner as I was on a time crunch, but the service was quick and efficient. The meatballs were delicious and came with complimentary bread and butter. I vowed to come back and dine in next time, so when the opportunity came again in December 2024, I took it.
This time, it was around lunch time and they were really busy, but we were seated right away to one of the main tables. After ordering from the counter, there was self-served complimentary bread, butter, and water available. Within a few minutes, our dishes came out and the serving portion was huge - truly made from a labor of love. The quality was still the same as last time, if not even better, in addition to the warm and cozy ambiance...
