Beautifully located, quaint and peaceful hotel. The surrounding park (with wild bunnies!) and lake were exactly what we were looking for when we made the booking. Receptionist was very accommodating and the rest of the staff were also very nice.
Some things to consider: 👉🏻 Classic rooms are located with the windows out against a busy road/highway. If you care about noise in the night do consider upgrading your room to a superior for beautiful views out into the trädgård/backyard and an undisturbed night of sleep. 👉🏻 The rooms are a lot smaller and cramped than they seem on the pictures. Would go for a superior or above if bringing children (children under 10 stay for free!) 👉🏻 Superior rooms have bathtubs! Very nice addition. Clean and inviting bathroom (this coming from a person who rarely takes a hotel room bath) 👉🏻 No coffee/tea options in the room, but the breakfast opens early (7am). The staff let us borrow cutlery when we had takeaway. 👉🏻 The air quality in the rooms are poor as the building is old. There was a fan in the room but in summer nights the air quality became uncomfortably warm and dense to sleep in. Probably much better any other time of year than in July. Can't expect to find aircon when the climate is like it is the rest of the year. ⛄️ 👉🏻 Beds are ok. Nice pillows and clean sheets. I was 7 months pregnant when visiting and found the bed too hard, but my boyfriend slept like a rock. 👉🏻 Hotel restaurant had a nice selection of food. We ate here the first day as we arrived late and hadn't made any bookings elsewhere. The food and wine was expensive though. 👉🏻 The hotel is located on the outskirts of Stockholm (Solna, a city of its own) and you will need to either have a car to get around or use public transportation (we didn't so I don't know how good that is in the area). We used the car to get around and were happy to have free parking at the hotel, which seems to be rare in Stockholm.
All in all a pretty...
Read moreThis adorable landmark with historic roots going back to the 16-hundreds was known (to me) for its restaurant with delicious food and lavish julbord spreads, but this is the first time I’ve stayed in the hotel. The service on arrival was professional and check-in was smooth. My room was far, far away from reception at the very end of the corridor but that also means no traffic from other guests passing by outside your room. The room itself was roomy and clean with stylish and quirky furniture but the view of the road and roadworks was not ideal. No road noise though so great marks for that. I only have two complaints about the room and that is the shower (unless you’re 2ms tall you won’t be able to attach the shower head to the holder on the wall) and the room temperature (too hot and no way to control this). I’m going to mention two other things about staying at the hotel - one bad and one good. If you are planning on going anywhere by public transport you will be in for a bit of a trek. Not only are there major road works going on around here but the hotel is on the outskirts of central Stockholm and walking in to the city center will be about 30-45 minutes. Getting a taxi is easy but does cost a bit extra. However, the location of this place whether you visit the hotel or go for a meal is one of the biggest selling points. On the edge of Brunnsviken you are right by an immensely popular outdoor area, Hagaparken (where the future queen of Sweden has her residence). You are close to Stockholm University, Karolinska Sjukhuset and many more (though you may need to consider extra time for transport. If the sun is shining (summer or winter), go for a walk (around Brunnsviken for example will take a few hours but offers a few options to stop for a fika) or go for a run. Stallmästaregården is a very good starting point for time outdoors and quite a...
Read moreSince I write a lot of reviews, I concluded it would be easier if I just went with a standard template. To make reviews easier to read I will use a simple plus +/minus system and at the bottom I will add comments for things not included in the plus/minus.
TLDR: + Good/- Bad, comments at the end
What was Good: Staff was great Location was beautiful Room was perfectly clean, spacious and tastefully decorated Comfortable beds Easy walk to many public transportation options Only a few minutes via public transport to all the main attractions Breakfast had good variety and was well stocked Family room had two bathrooms
What was bad: I lived in Europe for almost 12 years and have adjusted to the fact Europeans like scrambled eggs wetter than most Americans, but the scrambled eggs were like soup Needs better lighting in the parking lot Needs some kind of lines in the parking lot as jungle rules seemed to prevail Surprisingly close to major road, we could hear cars from the second floor bedroom but did not find them intrusive. Wi-Fi did not reach the second floor of our hotel room
Other Comments: We stayed in the Family Room/Junior Suite - Split Level which was two stories. The stairs are VERY steep so be warned if you have mobility issues, they would be a challenge.
I would definitely stay here again despite my very few negatives this hotel...
