We stumbled upon the Grand Hotel whilst trying to escape the crying clouds a few months back in July. We were curious to see the hotel and its outlets since my friend and I both work in hotels. Since we were on vacation, we allowed ourselves to visit the bar during the day.
We were lucky to find a table in the outside space of the bar. Whilst we wanted to order cocktails, we observed that there were quite a few tables where folks were indulging in Afternoon Tea with champagne and scones. The lady who served us (sorry I forgot her name since it’s been a few months) was absolutely amazing. Super knowledgeable regarding the menu. She explained the theme - how drinks in the different leaflets corresponded with its prowess in affecting and altering one’s state. The drinks in the mind section were the strongest whilst those in the legs section were milder. Also, the overall ideation of the menu is inspired by Régis Cadier, the hotel’s founder, and his journey from Paris to Stockholm; the same has been depicted brilliantly and creatively through fun illustrations.
After the lady left us to deliberate our choices, I decided upon the cocktail that juxtaposed tasting notes of an Irish coffee with those of a piña colada, and my friend chose the cocktail dedicated to a Swedish actress who was a frequent patron of the Grand Hotel (Greta Garbo, I think). When the lady brought our cocktails to us, she elaborated on the stories that inspired them, along with describing the various flavours that we should be tasting. Before my friend could commence his tasting, she placed a clear, white coaster onto the table, and displaced his cocktail from the wooden surface onto the coaster. Ah the dramatics! Upon peering into the glass, we saw Greta’s face staring back at us - it was truly a unique and aesthetically-pleasing cocktail. The ice cube in his glass had her face as its background, which reflected clearly against the white of the coaster.
So definitely recommend this place! Our server, who had perhaps been there for a year or so, shared that she had been involved in the creation of the menu, and thus knew it like the back of her hand! It was a pleasure to chat with her. Also, the bar has one of the best views of the Royal Palace.
The only drawback would be the furniture and the rugs. They looked a little old, a little stuffy...I can’t explain it. It just didn’t suit the vibe of the place. Didn’t look regal and refined enough to be in a creative and elegant bar such as the Cadierbaren. But all in all, you must-visit this gem in Stockholm, even if you’re not too big on cocktails - you’ll definitely fancy something on the menu and you won’t be disappointed once...
Read moreGrand hotel is a classic and the epitome of an elegant hotel but it is sad this establishment has failed to deliver on service. Orders were forgotten, evening disturbed by an insistent guest that made us move everything and for some uncomfortably long time because he didn't believe his forgotten scarf was no longer there, and had us remove everything several times under the maitre D' surveillance. I have to say, I felt like being accused a little bit. (It was not there when we arrived. We bought an exclusive champagne and for the second bottle ordered we were told that the one was apparently sold out - no alternative proposition as to how to replace it. Being Grand Hotel, you'd expect tableware with more personality than regular large white plates and the table are so big it is hard to hear the friends across. The colour scheme aiming at being elegant makes it like a modern outdated bar without the historical touch. The complementary nibbles were peanuts and cheap crisps like in any sports bar and served in a silver dish that the staff doesn't bother fixing. The atmosphere is not the bar's fault but, overall, personally, I was not impressed All that said, if you want cozy and comfortable in a softer environment than the loud bars that are plethora in stockholm, it is a...
Read moreBEST BREAKFAST, AFTERNOON TEA & COCKTAILS WITH A VIEW IN STOCKHOLM!!!!! We had a chance to experience breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails over multiple days while staying in Stockholm and very enjoyed them all. Carolina greeted us with a big smile and great attitude upon entering and always tried her hardest to give us a table with a view. Julia ensured that all guests are served promptly and will pitch in and give a hand as is needed when super busy, expecially during ala carte breakfast service. I enjoyed an amazing Eggs Benedict one morning that was sublime as well as just a more simple Continental Breakfast that came complete with fresh pressed OJ, Latte, yoghurt/granloa/fresh berries, a assorted bread basket and a plate of assorted cheeses and meat. Certainly enough to make even the hungriest guest say they may pass on lunch that day. Afternoon Tea is amazing and relaxing and with that view you tend to spend most of your afternoon there while on another evening you may just want to enjoy a cocktail or glass of champagne while watching the sun set over the water of historic Stockholm. A MUST STOP DURING YOUR...
