Read moreThe National Museum is simply spectacular and an absolute must-see for anyone visiting Stockholm. The newly renovated building itself is breathtaking—a perfect harmony of tradition and modernity that sets the stage for the treasures inside. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was captivated not only by the art but also by the sense of history and culture that fills every corner of the museum.
The collection is vast and wonderfully diverse, spanning centuries of European art and design, with an especially strong focus on Swedish and Nordic works. Paintings, sculptures, applied arts, and design pieces come together in a way that feels both impressive and approachable. What I particularly loved was how thoughtfully the exhibits are arranged: the storytelling flows naturally, making it easy to appreciate masterpieces by world-famous artists alongside lesser-known but equally fascinating works.
The museum also does an excellent job of being inclusive and engaging for all types of visitors. I found the interactive installations and detailed descriptions very helpful in deepening my understanding, while still leaving room for personal reflection and wonder. The staff were kind, welcoming, and clearly passionate about the art, which made the experience all the more pleasant.
The café and museum shop are also worth mentioning—both beautifully designed and a perfect way to complement the visit. And with its location right by the waterfront, the National Museum offers stunning views of Stockholm, making it a cultural and aesthetic delight inside and out.

Read moreA great museum indeed, so 5 stars for the arts, but the staff is EXTREMELY rude therefore-the whole impression was ruined! I was treated like I was too drunk in a pub causing trouble. It was a tall man of a certain Arab nationality in Bonnard exhibition. I was waiting for my mum from a toilet sitting in a lounge ( not in an exhibition hall), when I got a small candy from my bag and put it in my mouth. NB : there were NO signs that any types of food weren’t allowed there. It wasn’t even food, just ridiculous, it was as small as a mint, just a small candy. Was sitting quietly looking at my phone , when this man literally ran to me like he was a bouncer in a pub and very aggressively started saying smth in Swedish. I said- sorry, I dont speak Swedish, only English. He was so rude and loud and aggressive- I was shocked. He replied- no English, Swedish- and started gesturing like what I was doing wasn’t allowed. I had a candy in my mouth, like- what do you expect me to do? What is you problem? I’m not even in the museum part, no signs around? Liek really?? In Sweden? You can’t just say politely- sorry, no food? I told him - you are very rude for no reason and he left still looking back at me like I was some criminal. And the aggression- my lord! Do you train your personnel in any way to speak to customers?? It was disgusting tbh. Everyone around was shocked too - it was so weird. A museum can’t possibly have such rude staff attacking women/customers for no reason! I literally put a gum in my mouth, and it was treated like I had killed someone! When there were no signs! Unacceptable, absolutely...
