Nytorget 6 in Södermalm is a modern restaurant with great service, a good wine list and excellent, interesting dishes.
Staying in Söder for two days, it seemed like a good idea to head to a local restaurant for dinner. Nytorget 6 seemed like a good option to me. The place looks modern, yet also somewhat classy, it somehow has its own character.
The background music was an entertaining selection of nineties hits with songs like All Star by Smash Mouth, bringing back fun memories from school.
Nytorget 6 was pretty busy on that evening and I was lucky to get a place without a booking or a long wait.
The wine list was kind of impressive, I especially liked the white wines on the menu. I would say, it would be worth going back just for a nice glass of wine alone.
My meal started with various mini bread loaves and tasty butter. One bread was a bit spicy, another one was with cumin or so and then there was a hard, thin flat bread.
Following the bread, I had deep fried feta cheese with lemon and mint. A great combination of flavours, looking beautiful and tasting refreshing.
As you do when visiting Sweden, my first dinner in Stockholm had to be meatballs. As far as meatballs go, this was quite a fancy dish, if you ask me.
Having olive oil and balsamic vinegar in the centre of the mashed potatoes was a funny idea, and surprisingly, it worked for me. Of course, the meatballs came complete with delicious lingonberries and a nice cream sauce.
The meatballs themselves were also a bit different, as the meat was mixed with various herbs, probably wild garlic or something similar. It was a very tasty plate of food. And as much as I like IKEA meatballs, what Nytorget 6 put together was on a whole different level of deliciousness.
After the pretty heavy main, I looked for a light dessert and the Swedish cheese cake sounded good. The flavour was very nice and the raspberry added much needed colour and sharpness, but I did not really like the rice pudding-like texture.
After three courses, I left Nytorget 6 full and satisfied. The place has a great, vibrant atmosphere, staff are relaxed and friendly, and the food...
Read moreAbsolutely unbelievable. I'd heard a lot about this place and wanted to try some authentic swedish food. As soon as I arrived there was a sign saying "welcome inside to be seated", good. So I go inside and the lady at the desk is talking to someone else (regarding their bill) so I wait at the entrance for a little while to be polite. Then the conversation drags on and on and the lady doesn't so much as acknowledge me waiting to be seated. The customer leaves and comes back, the lady leaves and comes back, has a word with one of the waiters, returns, blah blah. All the while the waiters are ignoring me.
Finally, as their conversation on whatever topic finishes and the customer leaves, the lady leaves again. I must've waited about 10-15 minutes awkwardly at the entrance without so much as being acknowledged if I wanted to dine there. I'm fine with wait times, but at least tell me if that's the case. Or at least say a couple of words about being busy at the moment. Jesus, what atrocious "service". I finally left about 3-5 minutes after the lady went to have a word with another waiter. Needless to say I didn't dine here so I can't even experience the delicious food I...
Read moreA very local restaurant/bar with Mediterranean and Swedish inspired cuisine. A very nice place for both dinner and drinks on a night out. From starters, I definitely recommend the Swedish version of caviar with cream cheese and toast. It wasn't clear from the description but we asked the waiter and we were glad we did. I had traditional Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes and lingon berries. They were amazing, I'll never eat Ikea meatballs again. My fiancée had a tartar which was served in a very interesting way but that only made it better. The dessert options include lemon creme brulee (lemon taste is very subtle, not overwhelming at all) and rhubarb compote, both very recommendable. The selection of cocktails is quite large and includes twists on traditional cocktails. The waiters are very knowledgeable in this area and make great recommendations. The atmosphere on Friday evening was very lively, there was a lounge music but one can still talk and hear each other without issues. The seating options include both tables and sitting by the bar. Reservations are advisable. Definitely don't miss this place if you're...
