Great food but terrible service.
The first time I went here was a couple years ago, and I recall waiting for at least 20 minutes before anyone took my order.
The second time I went was a week ago, and the service was not particularly friendly. We called the restaurant ahead of time to ask if it was possible to bring a cake as we were celebrating a birthday, and they said it would be fine, but failed to mention that they would charge us a surcharge of 20 kr per person for serving it until we arrived at the restaurant with the cake already. Of course, we weren't going to change our minds since we'd already brought the cake, but I think it was very unprofessional of them not to tell us ahead of time (we were 9 people, so we were charged 180 kr just for them to bring out the cake and cut it). Also, we sat at a table near the entrance, and multiple times the restaurant allowed guests who were not in our group to sit at the end of our table while waiting for an available table. Another complaint I have is that they took so long to bring out some of the food (specifically the naan) that we had long finished eating by the time it arrived, so we sent it back to the kitchen, but they charged us for it anyway when it was their fault.
I would definitely not recommend bringing a large group to this restaurant because they treated us like an inconvenience despite making good business off of us. They are very business-minded, and the food is good quality, but unfortunately their treatment of customers is...
Read moreFor having the reputation of being one of Stockholm s best Indian restaurant, this is a big disappointment. The minute you enter the restaurant you feel that the personal is not here to welcome their guests with warmth but rather just making as much business as possible regardless their customer satisfaction. This restaurant just tries to make money and try to squeeze in guests as much as possible even on our booked table , so we had constant appearance of extra people n the side of our booked table, this is simply the most incorrect thing, even after talking to the manager they didn’t care at all. The food was relatively good I admit but still in my opinion you will find much better options, the menu is way too big and obviously it means the food will not be equally good neither equally fresh from one dish to an other since they will stock the old food in Tupperware for further clients as I witnessed. Shanti supposes to mean Peace but I felt not at all any peacefulness from the management of this restaurant and rather a certain arrogance and disrespect from them. I will never go back to this place and I highly recommend for people that look for more authentic food to try restaurants such as Pataka where you will really have the authenticity of Indian cuisine and not any western style...
Read moreI've been looking for a really good Indian restaurant in Stockholm since I arrived here a couple of months ago. I've tried a few and - spoiler alert - Shanti Classic wasn't it either: perhaps I simply spend too long in the Middle East & India. Don't get me wrong, the service was fine and the food wasn't bad either - if you like Indian food for Westerners. I had the Vegetarian Thali. It came with a salad, which occupied valuable "plate real estate" - the space it took up would have been better used for making the rice portion bigger. Also the bread we ordered with the food came way after our food arrived - a shame, because I would have liked to enjoy it with my thali. My wife had the Tamarind Chicken and liked it very much, so perhaps it's just this Gora who wasn't entirely satisfied. Maybe I should have picked a "sizzler" dish - they seemed very popular with other diners or maybe I should have simply requested to make the food a bit more desi...
