Kappa Bar — Restaurant in Uppsala kommun

I really wanted to like this place, but they dropped the ball in irreparable fashion.

A while back I called to make a reservation for a sports event on 26.10.2024. While discussing the reservation I made clear that we’re going to be a group of at least 10 people throughout the night, but more will join later, some will leave early so, it can be 15, it can be 20 at some point, but at least 10 will sit throughout the night to watch the particular event.

I made clear that I do not intend to harass my friends for definitive answers and that this flexibility is important, but that I totally understand if they can’t accommodate us due to the uncertain number of guests.

They said it’s fine and we booked a table. I went there in person to check the space and make sure our reservation can accommodate a good amount of people. I chatted with a very nice lady that showed me around and we agreed on a particular area with a long set of tables that can easily accommodate this group. I then called once again to make sure that everything is fixed.

Come the night of the event, we get there and realise the area I booked was given away “because they were more than 10 and they are having food. Your reservation was made for 10 people and there was no note in the system that you’re more than 10”. Ok? And how is that my problem? I already went above and beyond to make sure a booking for a big group of uncertain number can be made.

We were moved to another area where some people from my group were seated, some were standing, some were split at different tables. The guy who gave my table away tried his best to accommodate us, which he managed after more than 1 hour of standing. He addressed me and everyone else in the group in a pissed and “hetsig” manner as if their poor decision making was our fault.

I would have expected some gesture of goodwill, a snack on the house for the group, something small to ease the tensions and not lose each and every one of us as future customer, but no. I reckon hospitality is a thing of the past.

Initially we wanted to order food, but this treatment made us change our minds. The ones who really wanted to eat had to jog the place to find a waitress and place the order. Then jog again to get cutlery. Then jog again for whatever else might be needed. Table service is nonexistent and their app does not work.

All in all we were able to watch the event, that’s all I can say. They made a few volume adjustment for us, which was appreciated, only a pity we couldn’t sit at the same table as a group.

Events like the one we were watching take place every few weeks and we wanted to make these hangouts a regular thing, but luckily there are other sports bars in Uppsala which, unlike Kappa Bar, are ran by...

About once every 3-4 months since they’ve opened in Uppsala, me and my friends tell ourselves that maybe the previous time we went was just a bad day for the bar. Yet, every single time we end up regretting going there: We’re not shy to flag staff down, but despite several people waving, they completely ignore you even if you make sure they’re not actively serving some other table. The app doesn’t have almost anything on (and the kitchen always seems to not have at least 3/4 of the food they put on their menu), so we kind of need to get the staff to take our orders?

The portions are ridiculously small for what they charge, like the pictures of the fries I ordered, basically all paper. The burgers that cost 120/150kr and come without fries are about the size of a mcdonald’s cheeseburger.

BUT TO THE MAIN ISSUE: I understand that it can happen to anyone to have problems in the kitchen, but when it’s a daily occurrence then maybe you’re managing it poorly? Whenever we go, we arrive at different times and it happens on a regular basis that we all order the same thing and the last to arrive receive their food before the others who maybe arrived over an hour before. Last time we went two of us ordered fries, waited for an hour because “the kitchen is backed up”, another friend shows up and orders fries and something else and receives them after 10 minutes. We went to the kitchen to ask what happened to our order and we’re told to be patient because they’re serving the people before us.🤷🏻‍♀️This has now happened 3 times, this exact scenario.

This place is just like expected. Loud, dark, many screens and the food that is fitted for these kind of places. Not a place if you just want to grab some drink or food.

I think this place is for young people and students that would like to gather and have a good time. For adults having own houses, big enough to have friends over and owning some gaming gadgets already - not much. I also found that many games on playstation were of similar kind, which were not of my preference. But I also understand that there may be limited amount of games that can be played for a short time (ie not games with long story line that needs to be saved)
