Short version: if you like absolutely brilliant tapas, a relaxed, informal and comfortable atmosphere, combined with some of best and friendliest service ever, this place is the setting for a perfect dinner date and evening in general đ I highly recommend this place! I particularly enjoyed the fried cheese and grilled Iberico pork (recommended to me by the waiter, thank you for that!), and the green Gazpacho was divine. Also, the Sorbet of the day, in this case apple-orange, was delicious and a fun twist on the familiar flavours of breakfast juices. The, for me, unexpectedly nostalgic flavours in a dessert, reminded me a little of a documentary I watched about Christina Tosi's Milk Bar, and her Cereal Milk panna cotta.
Long version: I got up stupid early, before 4 in the morning, to solo travel for 10 hours, with four trains and two busses, from my home country, for a work conference in Uppsala. I was exhausted, and more than a little annoyed with myself for choosing such an early ticket, just because... But! Then I got here, checked into my hotel, got showered and decided I could manage going out for some dinner before going to sleep, and on a coin toss, I decide on Tapas over Italian.
This was probably the best decision I made for this entire trip, including the travel booking stuff... The service was perfect, the staff were engaging, comfortable and made conversation, with detailed recommendations when I asked and friendly explanations of the restaurants concept. Tapas like in Spain, relaxed and delicious, with flavourful quality ingredients as a priority. And they delivered. My god, did they deliver! I will admit, a bit of sleep deprivation and a glass of wine on top, may be turning me even further in their favour, but I don't know that I've ever had better tapas outside of Spain! Coupled with a relaxed atmosphere that managed to perfectly balance between causal and just that bit more luxury than an everyday eatery, and I am sold. I'd happily repeat the entire 10-hour trains-and-busses chaos trip again, if it means getting wined and dined like that again đ€€đ€©
Since I had the advantage of my workplace comping me, I decided not to look too hard at the prices, but that said, I also found the prices to be very reasonable for the experience and quality served. It should be mentioned, I have no issue paying what I believe good quality is worth, and I also come from a country with a stronger currency than Sweden. I spent 730 sek, for 4 tapas, a dessert, a glass of white wine and bottle of sparkling water, and I could have easily worked up that same number on a tab at one of the higher end tapas place in my local city. But this was a lot better, and accounting for the currency exchange, not nearly as expensive as my home. Probably still a little pricier than I'd do on a spontaneous night out (when it isn't comped by my boss), but absolutely a place I will prioritise visiting again in the future. I may even plan trips or detours to Uppsala on other travels nearby-ish, if I can get...
Read moreIberico is a resturant that surprises me.
The first time I visited I tried the tortilla (absolutely delicious. I wanted to order more), the spanish olives (only green olives and capers) and the solomillo (tenderloin. Far too chewy and mostly tendon). They also had a delicious sorbet-based drink. Sadly for the price and what was served, one was still hungry and a bit disappointed.
The second time I visited, we had booked a table but it was crowded and we didn't get a table anyway so we left very disappointed.
However, the service was extraordinary. They contacted us afterwards saying they were sorry and offered us a redemption and free dinner for the whole group. I am so impressed by how the handled the situation because wow!
The third time, the tortilla was once again perfect, the tenderloin much better and tender. We also tried the bombas con trufa (absolutely delicious potato croquette with meat. Sadly, you only get one). The cheese plater was a great starter to share. The miniburger was also on point as well as the gambas and the pimentos. Sadly the patatas bravas were dry and not very good. The sangria however was absolutely fantastic as was the desserts.
The sizes of the tapas are however very odd. Some of the dishes you can't share (like the croquette, mini-burgers and the tenderloin) whilst others it seems you can share with more than four people. I wish they were more clear on this on the menu as sometimes people order the same thing without knowing one order is enough and at the same time, order too little of another. It sadly means more food thrown away/not eaten and some not feeling full or satisfied after a dinner (hard to be if you pay a heavy sum for a huge plate of potato and very little protein).
The atmosphere itself is crowded and a bit nosy but still cosy enough. During summer, they have tables close to the river and an open bar which is perfect for a sangria out in the sun.
All in all, service and drinks are fantastic. Food quality can vary. The price is rather...
Read moreGreat food, bordering amazing! A restaurant that is an experience, rather then just good food. Recommended for occasions worth to remember, where price is not the main focus.
I jokingly ordered the
"SECRETO IBERICO: Grilled meat from Iberico pig topped with pedro Ximénes glaze. Served in apple wood smoke"
because I thought the last sentence was a misspelling. Surely they ment "cooked" in in apple wood smoke, but no, it actually came in a glass dome filled with smoke! Lifting the glass dome resulted in a cloud of mouthwatering smoke with clear hints of apple.
The downside, as with most tapas restaurants, is the price. I had some garlic bread, the smoky meat described above, tenderloin, a glass of red wine, a mojito, and the sorbet of the weak. It cost me 720 SEK. Do mind that all the dishes are tapas sized and you are recommended 3-4 dishes each.
The atmosphere was cosy. Warm, dim lighting and a feeling of privacy even though the dining area is on the smaller side it never felt crowded. We ended up in what's probably the worst table - the cross section of the kitchen and the bar - and we didn't mind it at all.
The staff were great and the food arrived supprisingly fast considering how many dishes had to be prepared. The only thing I can complain about was not being offered to test the wine before pouring it.
All in all a...
