Grosser Alexander | Shahrzad — Restaurant in Baden

I visited this restaurant for the first time last Friday for lunch, and I had a great expectation, given that it claims you will have "fine dining and fun". Unfortunately, it had neither of those components.

The ambience was just ok, very simple and rather dark. The service was not friendly nor helpful. It seemed the person was not ok servicing the customers. We were advised we needed to serve our drinks, and to look for a table.

The food was not extraordinary. I ordered a salad with crispy chicken, and it was just lettuce, sliced cucumbers and carrots, and 6 chicken nuggets. There was nothing else that made it stand out.

The other person eating on my table was served spaghetti bolognese, and again, it seemed nothing extraordinary.

I was expecting an experience, even at lunch time, and I left disappointed. I seriously wonder if it is different at...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Shahrzad, and it’s hands down one of the best Persian restaurants I’ve found near Zurich! The rich, authentic flavors in every dish made for an unforgettable experience.

I’ve tried several of their stews, and each one was absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned, and deeply satisfying. From the classic Gheymeh to the flavorful Ghormeh Sabzi, every dish was prepared with care and tasted incredibly fresh. One of the highlights for me was the Tahdig—crispy, golden, and served just right. It’s not easy to find good Tahdig, and Shahrzad really nailed it!

While passing through Switzerland, we ended up in Baden — and stumbled upon Shegerzad, a Persian restaurant that turned out to be an absolute gem. I’m so glad we found it. The food was exceptional. The mixed grill? A must-try — rich in flavor, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented.

But the real surprise came with dessert: orange blossom ice cream. Without exaggeration, it was the best ice cream I’ve had in my entire life.
