I’ve visited Pavilion im Restaurant in Schützenpark, Basel-Stadt many times (since 2013), and each visit reinforces what a special place it is. The welcoming atmosphere and genuine hospitality of the team, led by Ruben and Christina, always stand out.

Ruben is a remarkable host who goes above and beyond. On one occasion, I asked if I could buy something for a homeless man as the restaurant was closing. Without hesitation, Ruben offered a free beer and doughnut, refusing payment—unaware that the same individual had previously caused damage to the premises. That act of kindness speaks volumes about his integrity and generosity. I've even celebrated the birthday of my daughter when she turned one many years ago and it went really well with the previous management also.

Though the team is small—particularly during the busy summer months—they work hard to make every guest feel valued. Christina and her colleagues create a relaxed, inclusive environment where families, locals, and casual visitors are warmly welcomed. I’ve even been offered complimentary drinks on more than one occasion.

This isn’t a five-star luxury venue—it’s something far more authentic. It’s a community space where people gather, children play nearby, and the team even keeps the toilets accessible to non-customers, especially for little ones at the park. That alone shows the care and thought behind how this place is run.

The food is also well worth mentioning—nachos, burgers, and fries are favourites, and the prices are very reasonable. The setting is open, child-friendly, and ideal for casual get-togethers or birthdays.

Yes, no place is perfect—and some negative reviews may reflect isolated moments—but in my 14 years living nearby, I’ve seen nothing but kindness, effort, and sincerity from the current owners. Ruben and Christina are truly doing their best.

Ein Ort mit Herz – Das Restaurant im Pavillon Schützenmattpark, Basel

Selten habe ich ein Restaurant erlebt, das so viel Herzlichkeit, Persönlichkeit und Lebensfreude ausstrahlt wie das im Pavillon im Schützenmattpark in Basel. Es ist weit mehr als nur ein Ort, an dem man essen und trinken kann – es ist ein liebevoll geführter Treffpunkt, der mitten im Grünen liegt und von einer ganz besonderen Atmosphäre getragen wird.

Das Herzstück dieses wunderbaren Ortes ist zweifellos die Betreiberin, deren Name in der Nachbarschaft mittlerweile mit einem Lächeln ausgesprochen wird. Mit einer Mischung aus warmherziger Gastfreundschaft, Professionalität und echter Leidenschaft für das, was sie tut, schafft sie es, jedem Gast das Gefühl zu geben, willkommen und wertgeschätzt zu sein. Man spürt sofort: Hier arbeitet jemand nicht einfach einen Job ab – hier lebt jemand eine Berufung.

Der Service ist durchweg aufmerksam, freundlich und schnell, ohne dabei je aufdringlich zu wirken. Wünsche werden oft schon erfüllt, bevor man sie ausspricht, und man fühlt sich als Gast tatsächlich gesehen – etwas, das in der heutigen Gastronomie längst keine Selbstverständlichkeit mehr ist. Egal ob man nur einen Kaffee genießt, einen kleinen Lunch zu sich nimmt oder am Abend ein Glas Wein mit Freunden trinkt – man wird stets mit einem Lächeln bedient und liebevoll umsorgt.

Auch das kulinarische Angebot ist überzeugend: Einfach, ehrlich, saisonal und mit Liebe zubereitet. Besonders schön finde ich, wie auf regionale Produkte und Nachhaltigkeit geachtet wird – das schmeckt man bei jedem Bissen. Und alles wird mit einer persönlichen Note serviert, die spüren lässt, dass hier echtes Handwerk am Werk ist.

Was dieses Restaurant aber wirklich besonders macht, ist die Atmosphäre. Man sitzt unter Bäumen, hört Kinder lachen, Vögel zwitschern und spürt diese ganz besondere Ruhe, die der Schützenmattpark ausstrahlt. Es ist ein Ort zum Durchatmen, zum Genießen, zum Sein. Und das verdankt man zu einem großen Teil der Betreiberin, ihrem Team und ihrer Hingabe.

My favorit restaurant/coffeeshop in Basel, I'm visiting once or twice a week with my children. I've always been treated very kind and helpful from all staff specially by the head of the crew Christina. I can highly recommend the childfriendly & cosy place with inside and outside sitting for all weather conditions during your visit at the most beautiful parc in Basel, the Schützenmattpark celebrating his 125 anniversary on June 14, 2025 this year.
