This was our second stay at SET since its an unbeatable location and the food at Teufelshof across the street is just amazing. We love to come back here. Since I had to stay for an entire week to attend a conference, we booked a larger room with kitchen this time. However, it was a bit disappointing. We assumed that the kitchen would have everything included to actually use it but that was not the case. There were not dishtowels (we called to get one), no dish soap or sponge for hand washing (only tabs for the dishwasher, so we ran it with just 2 plates and 2 glasses and cups in there), and essentially we had two small glasses for juice, 4 cups for tea or coffee and 2 red wine glasses. That was it. Essentially, we had to run the dishwasher each day since the cabinets had mostly one set of each which was a bit too barebone for my taste. More glasses, more dishes, more of everything would have been great. There is also no way to cook since nothing is supplied, no oil, no salt, no pepper. If you want to cook, you would have to buy it and I guess just throw it away on your last day. I don't think that goes very well with the general theme there of being environmentally cautious since they give you free tickets for the tram which is super great. We still enjoyed our stay but would definitely just stick to a regular room next time since the added kitchen did not have any advantage with the minimalistic supplies provided. (the room had a washer though, which is good if...
Read moreThe SET hotel residence is a case study in good design, and good service. The room was clearly designed by people who understand a guest's needs, and have poured their passion and experience into a simple, but super hotel. Wooden floors, easy to clean. The management of all the big chains should visit, and understand that a mid range hotel can be perfect. It puts most Hiltons and Sheratons to shame.||||What do I mean? Sockets! Lots of them, (I would guess there were 12 to 16 sockets in total) in all the right places. Sinks, three of them, at the right height, with storage space around for a washbag and toiletries. Blinds and a sun shade. A big desk, and a bench above the fridge. Subtle lighting which works. Quality shower gel in an eco-friendly dispenser. A Nespresso coffee-maker with capsules and milk. A big fridge, not a tiny bar fridge. Very quiet. Water in glass bottles in the fridge, not plastic ones. A good size gym.||||The staff were also great - very friendly, helpful, excellent English. ||||The location is also superb - 20 minutes walk from the Kinderspital, a few minutes from the old city, a tram stop close by. University music facilities nearby, so when you walk down the street you can often hear beautiful piano music or a harpist playing. There's secure, reserved parking five minutes walk away for CHF 25 a night. There are hire bikes and rental scooters nearby, a bakery and a range of good restaurants.||||I would recommend this hotel to anyone...
Read moreThe location is good, just a short walk to the old town. Staffs are super friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and the air-con works well, since my parents are sensitive to warm temperatures. We love that the toilet and shower are separated. We had connecting rooms, one of which had a cooktop, but we didn't get to use it.
Another highlight would be the Restaurant Atelier across the road, which is also under the same group, Der Teufelhof Hotel. We had dinner both nights and a late, light lunch during our stay. The local veal rib chop is to die for—very tender and juicy. The rest of the dishes are beautiful as well. Not only the main, but the sides that come with it are also delicious; not some ordinary steamed/sautéed vege or frites. The summer salad was refreshing, which saved me from eating too much cheese fondue and rösti.
The semi-buffet breakfast was the best breakfast we had during our time in Switzerland. They cook eggs on request per your preference, with a choice of bacon or ham. The scrambled eggs are so creamy. Teas are served in iron pots, and other hot beverages are served by the bar. Full size croissant and varieties of bread rolls to choose from.
I would highly recommend this hotel and I will definitely come back if I visit...
