The first time I tried Umamido (4 years ago) it was so delicious, and impeccable attention. Sadly, it was a one hit wonder. Since then, there have been few times where we tried to go and they had unthinkable issues. For example, there was one night where they couldn’t serve us because they were out of broth at the beginning of their service (think that this is the sole thing they sell! And they were out of it by 9pm 🤷🏻♀️).
Another time we ordered to take away but the staff refused to tell us until the order was placed that they had issues with the card reader, hence their solution was for us to order again through uber and wait more than an hour to get the food. It’s important to say we live right in front of Umamido which is why it’s nonsense to order uber when it’s across the street. Finally, Ramen came cold and soggy, a never again experience.
Nonetheless, I wanted to still give it a chance and we were there for dinner. We arrived when all the tables were taken, so we had to sit at the window seats. During the time we waited to order two more comfy tables were available and the waiter refused to change us allegedly because he had given them away already. This was not true as I approached him first before when he was cleaning the tables and he hadn’t been outside to tell the waiting list what their table was.
The ramen was good, but honestly 25CHF for vegetarian ramen that is only broth and noodles and some nori...
Read moreOk it was good AND they were basically saved by the Bell. Or a nice bell named Romain (I think that's the way you write it). The beer is fresh and good (Asahi), the Gyoza were very nice, the Pork ramen was excellent and I even had an extra noodle for my ramen. But the bun unfortunately was bad. The meat was super dry and just gross. HOWEVER, as I mentioned, lovely Romain apologized and offered me another one (for free) and this one was excellent. Ok I can forgive that because he was cool, cute and very kind about that. If you go to Umamido I recommend this restaurant because the food is good. See if Romain is there he's a sweet guy with awesome tatoos on his arms. Very crowded place and 25 (circa) seats inside so don't expect a huge restaurant with plenty of room. There was no room for jacket / coat and the bathroom is mini. Thanks Romain! :)) Give this guy a reward, it's so difficult to find nice and friendly workers in Geneva, this man is almost a miracle lol. Most probably going back. I give this restaurant an 8 out of ten so four stars are well deserved. By the way, for two people we paid 92 francs. That's expensive but that's Switzerland for you unfortunately. Yes it's not cheap to eat out in this country. In Japan we would spend...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this ramen place by chance, and we were absolutely delighted. There were four of us — my husband, our two kids, and me — and the standout dish was definitely the spicy Tantanmen. I really wanted to try the duck ramen, but I hesitated since I had never had ramen with duck before and wasn’t sure what to expect. Still, after tasting the other bowls, I’m confident it would be just as delicious — maybe next time!
The owner was incredibly kind, and the restaurant was very clean and well-kept. The interior design was modern and tasteful. We only stayed in Geneva for a day, so we’re not too familiar with the neighborhood, but it felt very safe. If you walk around a bit more, you’ll also find a chocolate shop, a gelato place, and even a bubble tea spot — which made the experience even better.
I don’t usually write reviews, but this place was so good I felt compelled to leave one. Sometimes Japanese ramen in Europe can have a greasy broth, but this place was perfectly balanced. If you’re craving something spicy while traveling in Europe, I definitely...
