It seems like we were not the only ones to feel unwelcome by the waiter and the strange restaurant atmosphere.
We were a party of 3 persons on a Saturday evening, and ordered the cheese fondue. The glasses of wine were 5-6CHF and the fondue was 25CHF per person (which is relatively standard for Switzerland fondue). We ordered some boiled potatoes with the bread for the fondue, but the potatoes were not completely cooked. The bread for the fondue also did not taste fresh.
The sign outside of the restaurant advertises, “fondue chinois”, and I was looking forward to having my friends experience this type of fondue. The menu, however, states that you must call ahead (by 4pm latest) in order to place the order for it. The menu is not available online, so we had no way of knowing this. On the bright side, the quality probably would not have been very great, so we probably dodged a bullet there.
We felt very rushed by the waiter at the beginning and end of the meal, especially when he asked us to take a decision on dessert “because the kitchen is closing” (despite it still being around 9:30pm; and their hours say they close at 11pm). Like I mentioned, a very strange experience for a restaurant in Switzerland.
As a resident of Switzerland, this fondue and restaurant experience was far below what I would expect from a fondue experience and a restaurant experience in a busy tourist town. During my next visit to Wengen, I will go...

Went in with my sister and mother last week for dinner. We went into the dining hall and was told Out out out! In a condescending manner by the owner. And we thought ok maybe they are busy and we stood at the door. The waiter then told us to wait and we waited. After a long time of him taking his sweet time to set the table, he finally allowed us to sit down. Our mother is 72 and he could have let her sit first but there was no intention to. Later we sat there without menus for a while so we called the same waiter who was strolling around the 1/3 filled restaurant . He proceeded to come over and shout very loudly at us - In Europe, we don’t call the waiter! We wait! We wait till the waiter is free and he will come!
Wow this type of condescending and rude behavior in a service industry? No thanks. And we asked about fondue which apparently his restaurant is famous for, and he said they are out of bread! So no fondue! And he used his hand to gesticulate to us what a fondue is!
Very ultra rude service from the waiter and owner and if you see the rest of the reviews here it’s obvious it’s a rascist issue. Spend our money elsewhere then. Not here! Go to Restaurant Pasta and More - super good service and actually very good food.
The term ‘in Europe’ was unnecessary and rude. We have travelled for the last 40 years IN EUROPE and never met anyone like him. Such attitude shd be fired and not...
Read moreWe went to eiger for dinner, and we asked for a table outside. The waiter told us that they were full. So I asked him how long did he think we would have to wait to get a table, to which he replied he did not know and to come back later. While we were walking away we saw a couple ask for their bill to the same waiter. So we went back. He saw us again and replied very very rudely that he already told us there was no availability! To which we told him that we just saw someone vacate the table. It was so odd that he didn't want us there. The manager came to see what was going on and showed us to our table. Even when he came to take our order, he was quite rude and wouldn't even look at us. He would pretend like he couldn't see us when we asked him for our bill either. It was very off putting!
I didn't know if it was because we were the only brown people there, because we could see he was very kind and pleasant around others (most people were white), but he was a coloured person himself, so I wasn't sure why he would behave that way!
Either ways, I would stay clear of this restaurant...I would rather go to bernerhof instead where the staff is kind and the food is better. If you are in the hospitality business the least you could do is ensure your staff is...
