Summary: Terrible experience at Restaurant Brunne. Found hair in our food twice, got rude service, and a local lady spat in my drink. Police showed bias and did nothing to help.
On 19.07.2024, at around 17:30, my two friends (one Swiss German) and I went to Restaurant Brunne at Metzgergasse 12, 3800 Matten bei Interlaken, Switzerland. We sat outside and ordered two Alpenmaccaroni with Apfelmus, one Käseschnitte, two Apfelschorle, and one iced tea.
When our food arrived, we found small pieces of hair in both of our Alpenmaccaroni dishes. We called the lady who served us, but she dismissed our concern, saying it was impossible because the chef had no hair. We showed her the short black hairs, but she just took our food away without apologizing and didn't come back to us.
After a while, the chef came out with new plates of Alpenmaccaroni. He was angry and kept saying he was bald and couldn't have hair in the food. We started eating again and found more short black hairs in both plates, especially one mixed into the food. We called the server again, but she was rude and blamed me, saying the hairs must be mine because I have black hair. We pointed out that we found hair in four different plates and just wanted proper treatment, not a refund.
While we were discussing this, a local lady came over, spoke in German, and then spat in my drink. I said I would call the police, and she said, "go ahead." We called the police, but the restaurant staff made up a story, claiming the lady heard us trying to avoid paying.
When the police arrived, they only asked us what happened once, then listened to the locals. They showed clear bias and said it was our word against theirs. One officer even said this wasn't a kindergarten and they couldn't do anything. They said the lady claimed she didn't spit but strangely offered to pay for my drink.
In the end, we paid for everything we ordered, except for one Alpenmaccaroni, even though we couldn't eat any of our food because of the hair. We also paid for the drink that had been spat in.
This experience was awful. We felt mistreated and discriminated against. We just wanted a nice dinner and proper treatment but got neither. At all times, I talked to the server lady politely and highlighted that we are not blaming the chef, but whatever the source, the food she served is not hygienic.
P.S. I don’t have any photos of the hairy food before the spitting event, highlighting that we had no bias and were just trying to express ourselves as customers until the...
Read moreThis place is astonishing! The cook personal makes sure the food is to your liking and that you are happy. I ordered a plum tart, a nut croissant, hash browns, and a cappuccino. The plum tart was exquisite; it wasn't ungodly sweet like a common American pie, rather a relaxing mixture of the crust, plums, and sweet jelly. Now the croissant had a strong flavor of the nuts in it, however I'm not sure what type. If you go for breakfast than I highly recommend the hash browns because they put bacon and eggs on top. With the bacon there was no large pieces of fat, instead the fat was throughout the meat its self still making it flavorful. This added with the soft potato's of the hash browns just made a spectacular array of easy flavors. The only complaint I have was the coffee was just a little weak, but that's it. If you ever go to Interlaken, Switzerland, I urge...
Read moreWalked in because the place we’d been directed to across the street was closed. The food and service were both amazing! The woman who greeted us and took our order had such attention to detail that she didn’t ask but noticed I didn’t use any cream and so didn’t bring any with my second cup—I didn’t have to tell her not to bother. We are midway through our trip (visited Montreux and Bern) and we both said this was the best breakfast we’ve had on the trip so far! Highly recommend! And easy parking as there is a lot right next to...
