Izakaya Ekimae — Restaurant in St. Gallen

I was joined in with a group of 12 people to celebrate a birthday. The foods were delicious despite the smaller portions which were to be expected. We arrived on time at 20:30 and the service said that "the kitchen closes at 21:00" which is unusual despite the restaurant opening until 23:00 (most restaurants kitchen closes at 22:00) therefore "omakaze" was not an option for us since it would take 2 and half hours to fully serve all courses, fine, everything went fine and we got the foods we ordered.

Warm rice were served WITH the appetizer (cold dishes) instead of main course, they all got cold once the warm dishes were served. at 21:45 i was the last person eating but the service already started to tidy up all dishes, WHILE i was eating they took the sauce and the plate with last piece of meat right away from me and forced their ways to wipe the whole table while i had a mouth full of foods.

Service was decently respectful while talking, but their actions were not at all considerate nor trained to fulfill their customers needs.

The misunderstanding part in the beginning was not much of a problem at all compared to towards the end when we were forced and rushed to get out an hour and 15min before the restaurant closes.

Personally, you wouldn't see us coming back again but please inform your employees of their actions and leave some room for improvement so that they won't upset any other future guests. It could've been a better experience for sure but we understand the situation, the rush and the stress since most of us in the group have been working in service (restaurants, bars, customer services) industry for almost ten years and customers might not always be right but you as a worker are responsible for your own actions the effect others.

Wir haben online einen Tisch um 20:30 Uhr für 10 Personen reserviert, spontan wurden wir 12 Personen. Dies wurde vom Empfang sehr freundlich aufgenommen & angepasst. Überpüntklich waren alle 20:00 uhr schon vor Ort. Wir haben uns alle so auf den Abend gefreut aber leider waren alle 12 Personen enttäuscht & wir kommen alle nie wieder. Wir haben nach gefragt wie das Omakaze genau abläuft, darauf hin Antwortet die Service Dame eher frech, das es mehrere Gänge sind und es zwei einhalb stunden dauert & wir dies nicht Bestellen können, da die Küche um 21:00 Uhr schliesst & wir zu spät sind. Die Reihenfolge der servierten Speisen lässt auch Fragen übrig. Zu den Vorspeisen wurden uns die warmen Reisschalen gebracht & nach einer sehr langer Wartezeit dann die Hauptspeisen als der Reis kalt war. Essen wurde einfach abgeräumt ohne zu Fragen, während andere noch dran waren. Bei der Kollegin wurde das Fleisch und die Sauce abserviert und sie musste darum bitten es stehen zulassen. Der Service hatte 0 Bock, war genervt & wir fühlten uns unwohl und gestresst. Der Tisch wurde gereinigt während Sie uns nach Dessert fragte & deutlich machte das wir jetzt direkt bestellen müssen. Weil die Küche schliesst. Einer von uns Fragte nach ob es möglich wäre die Rechnung separat zu haben, darauf hin verziehte die Dame ihr Gesicht und meint: ääh, geht einfach 1 Stunde bis wir fertig sind.

wir haben uns überlegt alle ein Omakaze zu nehmen, aber nach dieser Antwort. Hatten wir kein Bock mehr überhaupt lange zu sitzen und zu konsumieren. Bei der Online Reservierungen kann man den Tisch bis nach 23:00 Uhr reservieren. Wenn die Küche um 21:00 Uhr schliesst & ihr wisst eine größere Gruppe kommt, dann ruft an & klärt die Leute auf. Die Art wie man redet macht viel aus. Ein lächeln wäre auch mal nett gewesen. mehr als die Hälfte von uns ist aus der Gastro Branche, eine Rechnung zu splitten oder trennen funktioniert sehr gut & geht...

I have been there twice, the first time was on year 2024 Nov and recently on July 2025. During the first time, everything was good in terms of food and services. However during my recent visit on July 2025, it was totally disappointed especially the services from one of the waiter that act arrogant and totally impolite. In terms of food, the tonkatsu was over fried and dried making it hard to chew and tasteless.
