It's fine. Serviceable. I wouldn't choose it for a special dinner. Better suited to an office lunch than to an evening meal (mostly because of the ordering system, see my description below). Great toilets!
Food - Kitchen Republic sells itself as 'fusion' but fusion for me has always been on the plate - classic French with an Asian twist, or whatever... that kind of thing. This is fusion in the context of different styles on one menu. You can have burgers, or you can have poke bowls, or you can have curries etc... On the one hand that's good because you have a group with mixed tastes. Just don't expect to be amazed with creations you've never had before.
Ordering - Normal menus definitely not available. Orders are all done with a QR code for your table with a menu on your phone, ordered via your phone and paid via your phone. This means when someone on your table orders something, the order is going straight to the kitchen, so two of us had our starters delivered while one person was still reading and deciding.
Because we ordered the culturally 'normal' way (ordering our starters and mains in the same round of ordering) the mains came as soon as the kitchen was ready, so for one of our group, the main arrived on the table before she had started eating her starter: because it all hangs on the app, there is no feedback from the staff to the kitchen to say - table 104 are ready for their mains.
The staff are friendly, but the food delivery might as well be by conveyor or robot - when technology that can bring drinks, over a small step from inside to outside and put it down on the right table exists... the human staff will be out of a job. Sadly, this all negatively affects the atmosphere because there is no interaction with the waiter/waitress and there is no flow to the meal. It it ends up feeling more fast food than restaurant. However, if you are short on time, this could be the...
Read moreMy friend and I were planning on eating lunch at this establishment on a weekday last week around 11:30. The place was completely empty of customers but there was a sign saying “wait to be seated” we patiently waited but when no one had acknowledged us for 5 minutes we proceeded to try to find someone who could seat us. We then happened to get the attention of a waitress who very condescendingly berated us that we were to wait to be seated. When I tried to apologize and explain that no one had acknowledged us and we were just trying to get someone’s attention she very rudely cut me off. She then said we could sit where we wanted to we opted to sit at a 4 top. She said we were not allowed to sit there because we were only 2 people. Again, there was 0 customers in the entire restaurant. The way we were being treated was not professional so we decided to leave and spend our money else where. The atmosphere was nice and the food would have probably been delicious but the service was one of the worst I have...
Read moreBest burgers in Zurich West. We went before catching a movie at Abaton and so did many others — the place was packed. We ended up waiting in line for 30 minutes before we could order. The burgers came out after another wait, so we only had 15-20 minutes left before the movie.
The fries were great with lots of spices. The bacon cheese burger was okay. Definitely better than Studer, and the other places nearby, but not quite at the level of Helvti Diner or Holy Cows. It looked a bit rushed, which is no wonder with the amount of people they were serving. It was somewhat small which worked okay since we were late for the movie.
The place has a great atmosphere and I look forward to coming back on a more quiet night. The decoration is super with low lights and a rustic look. It looks like a place that would serve cocktails, but they only have...
