Lilly Jo — Restaurant in Zurich

The place: one is greeted by fresh pastries and a counter with the menu on display for everyone at the top. You take your seat, decide what you want, and order at the counter. They then bring you your food. It's a well-lit place with relaxed ambiance. You will see people working here, and also just sitting down and enjoying their coffee and food.

The food: short menu, which is always a plus. I went with scrambled eggs + bread, which were cooked well (not super seasoned but there is salt and pepper at the tables) and bread was very tasty. Also tried pain au chocolat and croissant. Croissant was ok, pain au chocolat was good. I also enjoyed my coffee. It was a darker roast but not super bitter.

The service: is fine. You order, they bring, you go to the counter to pay. Simple and efficient. Not much to say beyond this.

The food is high quality, the lunch dishes are delicious and the staff is friendly - HUGE minus: I asked what they do with the leftovers from the day close to the shop closing hour. The response of one of their employees: “We throw away everything that is not sold until the shop closing hour”. This is a no-go in a city where there are still low-income and middle-class folks working hard to put food on the table. I asked the employee if they are considering selling the leftovers for less money before the shop closing hour and she strictly denied that they would even consider it. I know other delis that have adapted their prices according to the demand in order to reduce food waste, which is a huge problem in Switzerland because of places like Lilly Jo. Was there a few times in February, found out this place gave me the feeling of relaxing in the living or a cozy dinning room. The decorations of this place made me feel so relaxing which you can sitting either inside or outside (if the weather is nice). The service was superb leads by Mr. Dominik Schüz who could recommend so many interesting drinks and dishes, not only him gave me the great first impression, his team Larissa and Miriam also gave a great smile to all the customer even they were running like crazy during the late lunch service.
