Stepping into Madrid Restaurant Zurich feels like wandering into a hidden gem tucked away in the charming labyrinth of Niederdorf. This lovely corner of Zurich exudes a warmth that is both inviting and timeless, as though the air itself hums with the promise of culinary delight.
The meal began with a symphony of starters that transported me straight to the heart of Spain. The gambas al ajillo were a revelation—succulent prawns bathed in a garlic-infused olive oil held a flavor that is borderline addictive. The jamón pata negra, with its delicate marbling and nutty depth, was nothing short of perfection, while the pimientos de padrón offered a playful dance of smoky sweetness and just the right texture.
But it was the chuletas de cordero that truly stole the show. Tender, flavorful, and cooked to an almost ethereal perfection, it was a dish that lingered in memory long after the last bite. If I weren't a better person (and had the ability to eat more), I would have cleaned the plate with the side of bread because the sauce was that good. And just when I thought the evening couldn’t be more enchanting, the helado de café flambeado arrived—a dessert that was as much a performance as it was a treat. The rich coffee ice cream, kissed by the warmth of the flame, was a fitting crescendo to an unforgettable meal.
Madrid Restaurant Zurich is more than a place to dine; it’s a portal to another world, where flavors tell stories and every detail feels imbued with care. The staff also really made this evening wonderful and I would be remiss if I didn't give them the proper credit. Our server was an absolute gem and her friendliness really set the tone for the evening. You can have a wonderful kitchen and cuisine, but when the front of the house shows up as exceptionally as Madrid, it's an absolute win all around. I also made a video of the experience on YouTube.
A must-visit for anyone seeking a slice of Spain in the heart of Zurich. Five...
Read moreLet me start this review by saying I am American and I do not speak German. Perhaps if I did our experience would have been different. My husband and I went to Madrid for our final night of our 10 day vacation. We have really enjoyed Zurich. I was done with local food and thought Spanish sounded good. Our hotel was in the old town of Zurich. We searched on several sites and decided on Madrid. They did have an English menu - although the staff spoke little English. We each ordered a glass of wine and I asked for water. I said Zurich water - which is amazing and they brought us a bottle of still water - not what I wanted but I didn’t say anything. We waited for our wine. We waited - it never came. We went to order and it took us a few minutes to decide what we wanted. All we wanted was a starter and an entree that we were going to share. The server told us we each had to order an entree. Maybe this is their policy - it didn’t sit well with us. We pay the 7 CHF for the water and left. Maybe the food is good - I don’t know. I felt they were extremely rude to us because we are American. You may have a better experience. Ours...
Read moreThe food was more than amazing. We spent about 18 days in Europe, the majority in Switzerland. We started with Estella Galicia beer. It was surprisingly crisp, not too hoppy but just right with the food. We had a torta tapas (scrambled egg and potatoes). It was a great start. We added the fried calamari. It was served with two lemon wedges and tartar sauce. This sauce was mayonnaisey but without a Jamey salt or vinegar taste. It was a nice compliment to the calamari. They were crisp and stood up well to the lemon and tartar sauce. The seafood paella was as good as in Spain. The seafood was plentiful. And get this there was enough for four plates. Four huge shrimp, four lobster tails and plenty of clams, mussels, squid and veggies. The rice was cooked just right for a paella not dry or salty. The lamb was perfectly cooked with love our meat rare and it was rare. The sauce was a cream and butter with a little mint and herbs. The roasted veggies were amazing. This is not a Michelin restaurant but it was amazing. The price really wasn’t bad given the portion sizes. Just do...
