We were looking for a simple dinner after a movie near Bellevue, but cojld not find many open restaurants on a Sunday evening. Using my smartphone to locate something almost last minute, we settled on trying Yen's. It has a bar and fine dining atmosphere that was clean, relaxing, and very comfortable. All of the staff and waiters were extra attentive and made sure we were properly seated and allowed us the use of a properly sized table. In most restaurants, due to space and furniture issues, table size and high-chairs creates both table space and seating problems. This place is generous and serious in terms of providing proper room and seating for customers. They then gave us the menus and even explained what items may be of interest to us. We learned about their home-made Japanese Soy Sauce and Japanese salad dressing and told us it is even available in bottles for takeaway. Suggestions were made for tailoring to suit people who liked it less salty. We ordered Miso Soup, Mixed Sashimi, Beijing Soup, and Cold Green Tea (Bottled) with no Sugar. The experience was superb, made better by the service staff and the well-rounded menu. Being incredibly professional and serious about a nice place to eat and drink, I would give this place 7 stars our of a maximum of 5. I intend to be a "regular" returning customer and highly recommend this place to anyone who wants good, decent, and reasonably-priced food. Pictures will...
Read moreSuper nice service and appearance of food. Substance ok but better alternatives nearby.
Went with a party of five, two of us former HK residents, so we were really looking forward. Place seems to have a reputation for sushi, which takes significant space in the menu; however, most of the tables today had different dishes. We had a wantan soup, samosa and siu mai for starters, which were fine. Main dishes were the pork with pak choi, the house special duck in hoisin sauce (something with volcano) and a curry with tofu. After the meal I asked around and with strong chinese and thai competition nearby, nobody said they were particularly impressed by the taste (appearance of the food was great). The duck lacked in crispness, hoisin sauce was soso and what the volcano effect is about is still not clear to me (it was a sizzling plate, but this cannot be it). The curry had cocosmilk in abundance and thus had a taste which resembled a ต้มข่า (but without the cilantro etc) more than a curry. All in all it was ok and the price is fair (mains 23-34 mostly) but bith Thai and Chinese dishes can be found better. Service was fast and supernice....
Read moreIn love with this place, picking up sushi once every two weeks. I've also taken a friend or two to have dinner there, I like to sit on the far end of the bar. Their sushi is great quality for its price. They also have lots of other warm dishes but I haven't tried those. I went to pick up sushi there yesterday and waited at the bar. It only took them 8 minutes. The place was only slowly getting packed as it was Friday night but even on very busy moments I was able to pick up sushi within the next 15-20 minutes. Whenever I go back I see the same staff, they are so kind and polite and even asked if I wanted to have a drink while waiting. To me this will always be my convenient and fresh sushi place to go and has definitely become a staple in my...
