I generally avoid leaving negative reviews unless absolutely warranted — unfortunately, this is one of those times. Morikoohii, located in the touristy Hinoki Village, came highly rated, so we were looking forward to stopping by. However, the experience was disappointing from the start.
When we arrived, we were told the place was full and asked to leave a phone number for the waitlist. As tourists without a local number, we asked how long the wait might be. The female staff member rudely ignored the question and simply told us to go next door. The shop next door had no AC on a scorching hot day, which made things even more uncomfortable.
Despite this, we decided to order because we were exhausted from walking in the heat. We were told the matcha shaved ice would take 10 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 20. Sadly, the dessert was underwhelming — mediocre at best and quite overpriced. The ratio of shaved ice to toppings was poorly balanced, so you end up with a pile of plain ice by the end.

Read moreThe place is so cozy and feels so comfortable. There is two types of shops for this cafe, first one is for the coffee shop, and the second one is for pancakes and shaved ice shop. There is no chair inside the first shop, but there is some chairs inside the second shop. So we try to order the shaved ice in the second shop.
There are two types of shaved ice which we can order, matcha and black tea. Inside both of the shaved ice, there is small peanut mochi, but there is also some sticky rice inside the matcha one. If you dont like sweet, it is better to order the matcha, since the black tea shaved ice has more brown sugar flavor in it - - "
I hope that there is English menu...
Read moreThe pancakes here were 10/10, they were thick and cooked perfectly, served hot with butter melting on top. The honeycomb ice cream was a spectacular addition adding that caramelised flavour and all together with the maple syrup it was perfect. The interior was beautiful, as were the views into the greenery of hinoki village. The service was friendly but very slow, with the pancakes taking at least 20 min to come to the table with no other customers in the store, however it was ok as the atmosphere is beautiful. We ordered the cafe au lait which was very watery and a bit weak, and overpriced for the quality so wouldn’t...
