This restaurant was on the Michelin Guide, which we thought would be a good source for our trip - we were wrong. Food was, at best, average. Noodles used are decent, but the soup is quite oily, flavor is [not bland, but not distinctive/memorable] not one that I would miss after leaving Taiwan. [Side note: This is the first time, in over 2 years, I have seen my travel companion, who is not a picky eater and one who refuses to waste food, not finish his meal. I'm talking about a person who loves eating noodle soups and normally does not consider his meal complete until he drinks up all the soup from his noodle soup; and no, he barely drank his soup because it was too oily.] The texture of the pancake/tortilla/naan is good, but no flavor...oh, they do sell a sauce, but we had already given up by the time we noticed. Service was awful; or perhaps we were unlucky and got a bad server? We were rushed to order from the moment we sat down; we were not even given time to look at the menu. Server didn't speak English, which is fine since we have been using Google Translate during our trip - but she didn't even allow us time to look at the menu; first thought was that "she is very pushy". We would have ordered more items, but she made us so uncomfortable that we just wanted to finish our food and leave. Food is not good enough for bad service to be overlooked. Was looking forward to trying the noodles here since we arrived days ago...so...
Read moreI visited this Halal food place during my trip to Taipei. It seemed to be a popular place for locals as well as visitors. We placed an order for the beef noodles. The noodles itself were perfect in texture and thick. The meat pieces were tender and tasty and the broth itself was great too. I added my own spice to my liking. We also had the beef strips along with the bread and salad. Slightly more chewy but delicious. Taste was good. You can also drink tea as much as you like and it does very well with the food. Upon my arrival I was told to sit on a shared circle table by the lady at the door. I kindly asked if I could wait for another table to be free so the two of us could be sat together I proceeded to sit by the door in the waiting space. She rudely told me to get out and wait outside. Very unprovoked and unprofessional. I obliged and stepped outside. I then seen other local customers walk in and they were permitted to sit at other empty tables. Eventually I sat waiting inside refusing to be treated in this manner. Her attitude was unfortunately awful despite no provocation from my side. If the management could offer her some advice it would be appreciated. She was the tall one who also sits at the cashier and seats the guests at the tables. Some kindness and a smile could go a long way in life. Despite this, the food is great and I'd visit again to eat here and hopefully be treated...
Read moreThis place offers a taste of Halal beef noodles with a Michelin Bib Gourmand distinction. However, my experience at this popular spot was only average at best.
The spicy beef noodles were slightly above average. The broth had a decent depth of flavour, and the noodles were cooked to a nice texture. The fried beef was also well-seasoned and tender, and went very well with the thin pancakes provided.
It's crucial to ask the waitstaff for clarification if unfamiliar with the dish names as the menu images, especially for some lesser-known dishes, can be misleading. We ordered the "合菜戴帽" (He Cai Dai Mao) based on the image, expecting a pancake-like dish. However, it turned out to be an omelette filled primarily with bean sprouts, which we felt was overpriced for the portion size.
Due to the restaurant's popularity, expect long queues and waiting times, especially during peak hours. Do also be prepared to wait outside on the street, which can be inconvenient if it rains (as you can see in my photo).
As the restaurant is usually packed, it might be hard to get the attention of the waitstaff, and the food takes a long time to be...
