Kitcho — Restaurant in Da'an District

I had been to Kitcho apparently almost around 15 years ago closer to when it opened but I guess nothing so absolutely mesmerising that I would have remembered.

We went recently in April of this year as I wanted to treat my partner to a special dinner as it was his first time in Taiwan.

I love these cosy restaurants where you can watch the chef perform his well honed craft and the food was one of the better omakase restaurants I have had.

But maybe at 17,500 for two of us, I expected much better service.

At around 1/3 of the way of our dinner a loud obnoxious man, possibly drunk, came in with his little side piece (to put it politely) and were seated next to us.

Loud, obnoxious and no consideration for the chef or other patrons, they had filled the whole restaurant with their banal yelling, like a 15 year old overexerting bravado to impress.

It completely ruined the whole experience.

I spoke to the waitress to the side and she bravely declared “I know, I agree with you!” (And should I really have initiated this?)

I don’t expect from a Michelin star or one where I am paying a fortune that the staff “agrees with me”. I want them to handle it and to preserve an experience where I could at least enjoy the evening.

Not only was it disrespectful to us, but other patrons and also the chef, which I would have thought at a Japanese restaurant would be steeped in that respect.

I have heard a litany of potential excuses for the restaurant, but to be honest, I can’t think of one that justifies why they could not handle the situation.

Needless I won’t be going back again. Restaurants at this level requires a certain amount of trust, not just of the food but of the service and unfortunately the service was nowhere near what it...

One of by far the most disappointing service experiences we have had unfortunately, even though we used to like the restaurant a lot. Recently we booked a lunch for 8 people and ended up having only 6 people being able to make it. The restaurant insisted on charging for all 8 sets which we were totally fine with, but they also insisted on only serving the food for 6 even though our group could have eaten more. We then asked what about we just take the extra 2 portions to go, and yet we were not allowed. We tried all kinds of alternatives that should make no difference to them, yet they provide us with no alternatives at all. In the end it’s clear that they intentionally wanted to rip us off for the extra 2 sets by charging us and not serving us the food. We think it’s completely unreasonable to take advantage of guests like this after we have paid for all 8 portions at their demand. We don’t mind the restaurant wanting to make money, but this is just completely unacceptable behavior with no care of the customers at all. Upscale Japanese omakase sushi restaurant. The dining atmosphere was cozy. The only downside that night was the waitress was a bit careless in services. Other than that, the food was excellent. All the materials they've prepared was top notch ingredients. From the main ingredients like seafood to even the vinegar rice, soy sauce, and the nori (seaweed sheet) they used, everything is in perfect condition. You can tell they really put their heart and soul into the food they served. If I really have to say something about their food, that would be I felt the portion of the whole set meal was kind of too much for me. Maybe because of the price they charged or the custom in Taiwan....so that they have to serve this kind of big portion set menu for customer satisfaction.
