We weren’t able to get a reservation at Orange Shabu Shabu last minute so a local Taiwanese friend recommended we try Kuroshio. This was most definitely our least favorite meal in Taipei.
The hotpot broth is overly seasoned and extremely salty. I love pepper but the pepper flavor in this broth was so overpowering that I could barely taste anything else. We saved all the crab roe for the porridge but it was so insanely salty that we couldn’t eat any of it. On top of that, service was terrible. They seated us in a semi-private area and never bothered to check on us, so we had to keep running out to the main dining area to flag down a waitress whenever we needed something. The waitresses also did not bother to serve us any water throughout the meal.
Lastly, they only let us know that their card reader broke “due to the typhoon” when we asked to pay for our meal, so they could only accept cash. I was shocked - how could they not tell us sooner? They should let customers know this the moment they arrive, so the customer could decide whether they’re able to dine here or go withdraw cash somewhere. When I commented on this, the waitress got defensive and snapped that it’s not like she’s purposely not letting us pay with card, the typhoon is to blame. I mean okay…but the typhoon ended almost 2 days ago so she still could have let us know they were unable to accept card payments prior to our reservation.
Such a lousy experience. Strongly do not recommend. Plan ahead and go to Orange Shabu Shabu instead - you can...
