This was the best service I have experienced in Taiwan so far. RWE was my server at the counter and he was AMAZING! I came in to dine by myself and order from their lunch menu, which is great for solo diners. I hadn't gotten my soup yet, when RWE went to start cooking my meat. I politely made him aware that I'll have my soup first. He didn't get mad or tell me anything. He stopped, checked on my soup and waited patiently until I asked him to start cooking my meat. I was in no hurry like maybe the other diners might have been and it's probably their protocol to start preparing everything. I didn't want it that way as I didn't want my food to get cold and I didn't want to be rushed to eat everything at once. RWE adjusted his service for me, which was the professional thing to do. He cooked a few meat pieces at a time when I asked and I watched him clean and organize his work space when he wasn't dealing directly with the guest. He always stayed busy. He's the best food, experience facilitator I've encountered in Taiwan. I hope he keeps that drive and passion. He deserves 10 stars. ⭐ So the food was excellent, banchan was great with the sliced pieces of Kimchi, instead of chopped. The salad with black sesame dressing was amazing and should be sold to take home. The quality of the meat I ordered and the service were so good that I decided to make another reservation to come back again within 2 days. I also had a bottle of original soju and my meal came with Kimchi Jjgae. Only thing is there wasn't an option for lettuce or perilla leaves to eat with the meat. That's what I wanted, I didn't ask. However, I noticed it on some tables in the dining room when I walked to the bathroom. It should be verbally offered or put as a side on the menu. Dessert was awesome. I chose the ice cream with grounded Oreos. The ice cream wasn't grainy like the usual local ice cream and the Oreos were perfectly ground and topped whimsically on my ice cream. It was very playful. I have been wanting to go here for years, and I'm so glad that I finally did. I can't wait to return. RWE deserves a raise and recognition for his service...
Read moreMy 3 friends and I came here on Labor Day because so many small restaurants were closed, and it turned out to be a great choice! We ordered the set menu that served 3-4 people and also added 1 more beef dish. As I wasn't doing the ordering, I don't remember what all the cuts were, but I would like to comment on the service Kuan 寛 provided. Kuan cooked all our meats for us, which is a nice change compared to most KBBQ restaurants in Southern California. This meant that everyone could focus on our meal time conversation without having to pay attention to the cook time of the meats, so everything was cooked to the right level. After Kuan finished cooking a dish he would recommend the appropriate sauce or seasoning to pair with the meat. Kuan was very attentive to refilling our banchan dishes as well. I do wish they had Korean potato salad, but they had plenty of other options like spiced cucumbers, salad (with black sesame dressing?), sliced tempura, kimchi, and soft tofu. Unlike some American KBBQ places, they don't have the square rice paper dish to pair with the meats, so we ate them with lettuce and dampened shiso leaf (not raw like in CA). At the end of our meal, we were all surprised to still have dessert, a delicious serving of brown sugar froyo, just the right amount to satisfy a sweet tooth and top off our meal. Overall, our experience at the Maple Tree was wonderfully relaxed and laid back, and I would recommend it to others wanting to eat KBBQ while...
Read moreFantastic evening at Maple Tree. We had the absolute fortune to dine in on Christmas Day and everything we’ve heard about the place lived up to and beyond those expectations.
Before dwelling in to what were our highlights, we need to thank our great BBQ master William who was our main server that evening. Well-spoken, skilful grill man ( you know someone is a pro when they do the Ramsey flip your steak only once and that was what William did ) and not to mention a rather handsome fellow according to my my mum and wife!
Highlights for us was the beef stew which had a light but intense beef flavour, the fluffy eggs which made you feel like you are eating cotton candy but egg flavour and finally the pineapple with beef had that intoxicating sweet and sour combination.
A Santa Claus walked around the restaurant and filled with Christmas carols, Maple and William made doing Christmas...
