If you have never been to Brazil nor eaten at a Brazilian steakhouse, this establishment does well enough to deserve its 4+ stars for the various cuts of meat and attentive service to their patrons. They definitely make sure you get enough of your preferred cuts and side dishes so you don't end up leaving on an empty stomach.
BUT SADLY...
If you are Brazilian like me, and grew up eating "churrasco" (portuguese for "bbq") from Fogo de Chao or Barbacoa, then this place will unfortunately leave you disappointed if you were expecting an authentic Brazilian churrascaria experience.
Let's start from the beginning: The very first slice of picanha and other first cuts of meat were very well-seasoned and grilled. So far so good...
But as the night progressed, some cuts were obviously undercooked. My first thought was maybe they were rushing out food to meet demand... but other reviews have also alluded to meats being served undercooked, so this is a glaring issue that needs immediate attention.
Aside from meats being served undercooked, some cuts were also served with very little to no salt. I definitely had to add a few pinches of salt to my own cuts of meat, so to a Brazilian palate, meats were definitely very light on the seasoning.
There was the glaring omission of white Brazilian rice to go with their feijoada...😧 (To put it bluntly, if feijoada is being served, there MUST be rice to go along with it!! It's like serving 滷肉 without the 飯⋯ ) And their lighter soupier version might not satisfy the thicker brown smokey taste Brazilian palates are used to.
The salad bar was small with just a few hot and cold dishes unlike the variety of options served at more traditional churrascarias. Again, might be enough for someone who's never experienced anything similar.
The cheesebread was also disappointing for a Brazilian palate. The middle seemed to be undercooked and overall tasted very plain... as if not cheesy enough.
The caramelized banana was a wonderful surprise! They definitely got this dish correct. 👍🏻
In summary, this place serves as a basic introduction as to what a "churrascaria" experience might feel like for those who have never been to one. Their 4+ stars rating on Google seems to be well-deserved for their attentive service and variety of cuts offered to their patrons. But undercooked and underseasoned meats are serious issues that MUST be immediately addressed.
As for Brazilians like me, honestly it was just a so-so experience. (Quebrou o galho, mas só isso!) I should point out that none of the employees nor management seemed to be from Brazil, so this could very well have been their own interpretation of what a Brazilian "churrascaria" experience would feel like. So with that in mind, I tried to be objective in my rating and not judge them according to my own past experiences. Because if their intent was to truly reproduce an authentic Brazilian churrasco experience like the ones we are accustomed to in Brazil, then unfortunately they fall awfully short of expectations.
So in that aspect, it's a good start but definitely a work in progress. Hope enough improvements can be made until we have an authentic Brazilian churrascaria experience in...
Read moreI was told about Cut It Off by a friend to try when visiting Kaohsiung. How lucky my and family and I were to go! We had a reservation for 1930, but because of the unpredictable timing of the event we were attending, we realized we would be late and called to see if we could arrange a later seating. The gentleman on the phone was understanding and accommodating and allowed us to come late.
When we arrived just after 2000, we were greeted warmly and seated with an introduction to the variety of included drinks, the salad bar, and the speed of the arrival of the grilled meats. As we were were late and our two sons were very hungry, we headed to the salad, which included many fresh leaves, accompaniments, salads such as quinoa and macaroni, a lovely jalapeno soup, cheeses, bread, etc. All were tasty, and the soup was one of the most flavorful I have had in Taiwan, rich and creamy with nice pepper taste!
The meats began to arrive immediately, and at the end, we counted around 14 different offerings. Pork rib, chicken wing, sausage, beer chicken, lamb, beef rib, sirloin, filet, short rib, duck breast, picanha, and on and on. So much deliciously grilled meat served with chimichurri sauce and farofa in addition to delicious browned cinnamon banana, grilled pineapple, pão de queijo, and "french fries," which were almost like waffle fries with roasted garlic on top. Very good!
As delectable as the food was, the service was the star. All three of the staff were kind, upbeat, fun, humorous, and they could not do enough to make our evening special. We laughed so much and truly enjoyed our night more because of their cheer and wit. They even sent us off in our Uber with a friendly wave and best wishes for a good evening. It felt like leaving a family party. If only all restaurants could be as welcoming!
Thank you, Cut It Off, for a wonderful meal and such a happy time for our night...
Read moreI’ve had my eye on this place for a while.
Having seen a number of vlogs from people visiting Brazilian BBQ Houses in the US and Brazil, was wondering if an authentic option might be available in Taiwan.
I’m happy to say that the visit this time was a very pleasant experience, with quality meats, good food, tasty drinks and fantastic service!
While the number of options compared to the restaurants in other countries may be unable to compare, the quality of the food is definitely there, from the variety of quality grilled meats, to Brazilian snacks like pão de queijo (cheese breads) and banana à milanesa (deep fried bananas), and the various options available in their buffet.
The staff is super friendly and really shows amazing hospitality from the moment you step in along with a fantastic sense of humor.
Although 1,500 per person may seem a bit pricy when compared with other dinner options locally, I personally believe it’s well worth the price point compared to restaurants in other countries, and is definitely well worth...
