Haritts Donuts & Coffee — Restaurant in Taichung

“NOT RECOMMENDED” Employees have the worst attitude and service towards customers (specially if you’re a foreigner) donuts are ok but with that terrible service you really hesitate if ever coming back( but after yesterday’s experience definitely NEVER BE COMING BACK AND WILL WARN FRIENDS TO AVOID THIS PLACE TOO.)

With the issue of the current outbreak everyone has to register their info and all that which of course I have NO PROBLEM whatsoever on doing that and I found it to be a great preventative measure. So I arrived and stayed outside filling my application with my personal info. Funny thing I see a couple of locals just getting into the restaurant and walk right by without filling the info and getting into the restaurant and personal being fine with it and didn’t even ask to show proof of doing the online application and automatically provide service to them. (is all glass so you can see everything happening from the outside). Now here’s where the double moral and discrimination comes when us as foreigners come in, we immediately are denied service if don’t tell them if we have filled or not the document and then the other waiter starts yelling to us to prove it by showing the document filled out not only one but the other two of my friends. ( which of course we all have and showed). After this in perfect Chinese my friend told to them about the other customers and why isn’t fair but they disregard us and didn’t even apologize and we just left.

But how comes when the two locals just walked by no one asked a thing ?? and of course because they’re locals sure they are less of a virus carrier than a foreigner. A person is a person and this pandemic doesn’t differentiate if you are local or foreigner. Coming from someone how’s lived in the country for almost 8 years and friends as well. So yeah never...

I first visited this place in 2018, recommended by a friend from Taichung. When I arrived, I found the shop’s atmosphere charming, but I wasn’t sure how good a Taiwanese donut could be. However, from the very first bite—specifically the cream cheese flavor—I was completely blown away. I had no idea donuts could be made like this!

These aren’t like American-style donuts. Instead of being airy and fluffy, they have a soft yet slightly chewy texture, almost like a cross between a donut and Taiwanese-style bread. The dough has a pleasant bite to it, and because it’s not overly sweet, the cream cheese filling blends perfectly with the light dusting of powdered sugar on the outside. The balance of flavors was just right. I loved it from the very first try.

When I moved to Taipei, I visited their Taipei branch multiple times, but it never quite measured up to the experience I had in Taichung. The donuts there felt denser and drier—just not the same texture I remembered. So when I had the chance to visit Taichung again in January 2025, I hesitated at first, wondering if it would still be as good as I remembered.

But wow—one bite, and it was exactly like 2018 all over again. Absolutely incredible! I also tried two new flavors, Tiramisu and Salted Egg, and they were both insanely delicious. Each flavor was distinct and well-balanced, never overly sweet or heavy. Whether eaten on its own or paired with a drink, it was just perfect.

This place truly makes one of a kind donuts! Top list shop that I’ll recommend to anyone who will visit Taichung....

This is a great little coffee/doughnut shop on a tiny street and therefore easily missed. They serve a limited amount of freshly baked doughnuts. They have some unique flavours viz. Earl Grey tea flavour, Orange flavour and sour cream. The regular/cinnamon is a highlight. Doughnuts are moist, soft and full of flavour.
