台中肉員 - Taichung Meatball⠀ 肉丸, 冬粉, 魚丸專賣店 - Meatball, Glass Noodle, Fish Ball specialty shop⠀ ⠀ Taichung tour! 台中之旅!⠀ Operated for more than 8 decades, this traditional Taiwan shop offers the simplest yet most delicious menu to every single guests. There’s only 3 menus - Meatball, Glass Noodle, and Fish Ball. This extremely spacious restaurant with air-conditioned environment, is perfect place whenever you’re looking for quick meal, stop-by, or even proper meal anytime of the day. The queue can be really long, but that’s for the take-out most of the time. If you would like to dine-in, just go in to any empty seats that you can find.⠀ ⠀ The ordering can be quite complex, but you’ll get to it pretty quick. Find any empty seats, then tell to the front counter on what you would like to order. They won’t be writing down your order, but no worries, they’ll remember. And if they’re not, or you’re not planning to go to the front to order, you can also tell to any of the staffs that will be sending foods to other customers, and they’ll get back to you. This reminds me of traditional dim sum place back then in Malaysia. Once you finish your meal, inform the staffs on what you’ve ordered, and pay accordingly. And if you would like to get your printed receipt, tell to the cashier right in the front of the shop, and they will print out the receipt according to the amount you’ve paid.⠀ ⠀ 📝Ordered「台中肉員」 - I’m amazed with this dish honestly, never have expected to find this kind of meat dumpling. First off, would be the texture of the glutinous rice - extremely chewy (unlike most of the other places that you’ll find it more runny, more liquid-y). Next will be meatball - solid, perfectly size with the glutinous rice. Last but not least, the sweet sauce with cilantro on this. All in this simple yet delicious bowl. And if you would like it spicier, you can put the yellow paste sauce served in a metal container on the table. Tasted more like a wasabi honestly.⠀ ⠀ 📝Ordered「冬粉湯 + 魚丸湯」- Love it. Again, it’s the simplicity-yet-delicious traditional flavor that makes me liking this shop. The glass noodle goes perfectly with the meat dumpling, something soupy to go along with. Same with the fish ball soup too. Both these dishes are slightly more pepper-ish in taste, and...
Read moreHad quite a fair bit of meatballs in Taichung but had to visit this because it is Michelin Bib Gourmand. Visited the shop at 10am in the morning and they were busy preparing and setting up for business. Their official opening time is 1030am but told me to wait a short while. By 1015am they already asked me to get inside the shop and take a seat and someone came to take my order. The menu is very simple, only 3 items for selection. Of course coming here had to eat the meatball and also tried the fishball soup. Food was served within 2 minutes and first look it was quite pleasing. First had the meatball. The sauce covered almost the entire meatball you could only see a small bit of it. The sauce tasted very good and smooth and I liked it a lot. What looked strange to me was that the meatball was just filled with the chewy outer layer and there was only meat the size of a ball. It's not really like the typical where the meat filling is consistent across the whole meatball. It quite big, but on the tough side. Not sure if its because it needs to be cooked longer? Then tasted the fishballs. Wow the fishballs were really good. Can taste the bouncy texture and it feels more closer to a meatball than a fishball. Soup is on the plain side though. Cheap and rather delicious food. I would say the highlights were the sauce and the fishball. If you like gravy like me, go ask for more. The gravy in the container on the table is the same but it's the spicy version. It might look harmless but it's actually very spicy! It doesn't taste spicy when you put in the mouth but then the fiery kicks in in levels! Worth a try but maybe go later when the meat are...
Read moreTaichung Rou Yuan is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the rich flavors of traditional Taiwanese street food. This Michelin-recognized stall specializes in Rou Yuan (肉圓, Taiwanese meatball), glass noodle soup, and mochi meatballs, all of which showcase expert craftsmanship and deep-rooted culinary heritage.
The Rou Yuan is the star of the show—its translucent, chewy tapioca skin encases a flavorful pork filling, complemented by a well-balanced sweet-savory sauce. Each bite delivers a contrast of textures, from the tender meat to the slightly elastic wrapper.
The glass noodle soup is a comforting, light broth with silky noodles that pair well with the richness of the other dishes. It’s simple but well-executed, letting the quality of the ingredients shine.
Perhaps the most unique item is the mochi meatballs, which offer a delightful fusion of soft, glutinous texture with a savory umami punch. They’re slightly chewy on the outside but juicy inside, making them an unexpected but welcome twist on a...
