Can find dozens of eateries from local specialties, noodles, bakeries, drinks to sushi.

There's numerous fashion, clothing components, embroidery and related shops. Before the older masters retire, bring your ideas and any clothing for cheap alteration and/or repairs.

A great example of a "traditional market" build during Japanese occupation in the early 1900's. Occupying an entire block with diagonal walkways for storefronts plus a temple at the center. If look closely, one may notice how original structural design allow for easy access, vertical storage and natural cooling while congregating similar shops to specific sector. Worth taking the time walk through out the entire block at least once, though recommend before 11 am to...

Some might say that going to this market allows you to emmerse yourself in a "cultural experience and environment" but for me it was alleyway after alleyway of dirty markets. I do not understand why people would line up outside for it to open, I found nothing that looked edible (or decent enough to eat). The stores with clothing in it didn't look clean and the smell of the market was horrible! I came to this market with high hopes and an open mind and found myself holding my breath and walking around discouraged. I would not reccomend going here or making it a travel destination at all. If you are looking for an authentic experience and want to find good food that is also fun, go to the...

Visited on a weekday morning around 10am to find roughly 2/3 of the shops closed. The food shops that were open though were busy with locals popping in and out. Note there is a mini indoor 'food court' space with 5-6 open kitchens where you can see them making food fresh (like a nightmarket)

We got the radish cake mix (radish, taro, fishcake) for breakfast which had a long line of locals. You could tell the radish cake was freshly homemade, softer than what I've had at dim sim shops. Was paired with a delicious savoury-sweet soy sauce. Would get again.

Sashimi from the indoor food court was okay, but sashimi was not very fresh. Was sceptical already seeing it out in the open in the 34...

Lot's of tasty and cheap traditional food / drink here. Don't bother queuing for that famous breakfast of rice sauage, as they taste more or less the same in that market. Have to give them kudos for keeping their prices the same as their less busy neighbours through. Also if you love chinese sauages then queue next door, as only they sell them. The pork rice stall near the exit door further down is also one of the best. I can never get used to the northen style minced meat, as you can't really bite into the pork, like you can with the thick slice they serve here and southern part of TW. Don't worry about the fat, it's not fatty at all after the long cooking.
