I love this place. I was here 4 years ago and the food was delicious, but I had to wait a tad due to the long queue. Now they expanded the restaurant in order to better serve the clients. This is what respect for the people and their clients looks like. 4 years later, the food is still the best I ever had in Tainan, the service was fast and the ambience was tranquil and comfy. 5 out of 5 🌟

Walking down the street, I was pleasantly surprised at the setting of the shop. Nice and clean. Air conditioned shop. Simply make your choices on the menu, pay for the food at the cashier and head back to your table to await to be served. The star was to be the shrimp rice. I do say it was really fragrant. But once I dug in, I wasn't too impressed. The shrimp were mushy. Makes me wonder if this particular dish was supposed to be as such?

My second time there. The shrimp rice is still good. I would describe it as not a fried rice but a drier version of a shrimp risotto. I order the duck soup the last time which was a bit sweet and an udon style bonito soup. I ordered the gooey duck egg today but it was unfortunately not good that half cooked. Sigh.

They do have lots of seats , but you still need to wait a while in line because the shrimp rice here is just too awesome

創立於日劇時代的1922年，迄今剛好近百年，原本在海安路中正路口，後來搬來現址。店名矮仔成是第一代老板葉成的台語諧音，因為朋友都這樣叫，所以久了就變成矮仔成。因為是日據時代開的百年老店，所以也會有日本雜誌來採訪，甚至會上日本的旅遊書，算是疫情前日本人來台南必朝聖的景點。目前傳到第四代了，而斜對面的集品是第三代時後的師傅出去開的，所以也算是師出同門。店家換新址後都是新莊黃，但是沒有側招，原本的招牌也被樹擋住，經過沒特別注意是看不到的。人到了店員會先安排帶位入座，填好單後再去排隊買單，買完單會陸續送餐，但上菜很沒效率，當天點了五道菜卻分四次上。菜單結構就是飯、湯、小菜和飲料，當天選了綜合飯、鴨蛋湯，小菜選香煎鴨蛋、豬肝和蒜泥白肉，鴨蛋可以選全熟，半熟或散蛋，蛋是配飯吃的。因為第一代在日本料理店上班，所以蝦仁飯作法類似現在的丼飯，特別的是飯是用木柴炊煮，但吃起來很濕，吃不出飯本身的焦香氣，蝦子使用台南特有的火燒蝦，天天現撥但很小隻，飯底有淋高湯，整碗像牛丼有洋蔥，加了鴨蛋黃打破變成滑順的月見牛丼飯。綜合飯是火燒蝦和豬肉絲，豬肉雖然是國產溫體豬，但肉絲偏硬，使用肉絲雖然行之有年，但真的不是很好的選擇，牙口不好的長輩也不會好咬，這個跟預想的落差太大。鴨蛋湯是柴魚湯底，打顆鴨蛋花，湯裡有肉絲和蔥段，也是比較日式的味道。小菜的豬肝有配薑蒜和香菜，醬香夠味很好吃；蒜泥白肉使用的是梅花肉，肉有點粗，單配蒜香醬油有點單調，可以沾豬肝醬配著吃。店裡聽著古老的台語歌，而且都有挑過，很有古早氛圍。整體餐點的味道差強人意，甚至跟期待的味道不一樣，雖然店家一直以來就是這樣做，但百年老店客人吃不出來好在哪裡真的很可惜。

I love this place. I was here 4 years ago and the food was delicious, but I had to wait a tad due to the long queue. Now they expanded the restaurant in order to better serve the clients.
