Shennong Street itself is one of the five ports of Nanshi Port, and the port area in the middle of Fotou Port. In the Ming and Zheng Dynasties, it was still part of the Nanjiang Port. At present, Minquan Road, the former Changle Street and the Shuixian Palace Market are all located on the Nanshigang River. The old name of Changle Street is Nanshi Street; Shennong Street is just north of it, called Beishi Street. Between Nanshi Port and Nanhe Port, the front of Xiluo Temple is the official pavilion, so everyone can know the river channel at that time.
Shennong Street is located at the riverside and is now a road in the city. Nowadays, the government has activated the old street, which has become a distribution center of Wenchuang art in recent years. It has been called Shennong Street as the Wenqing Holy Land. Read moreA beautiful, vibrant street worth visiting, especially at night with the hanging lanterns in front of some store front doors. Don’t visit too late because most of the stores close at 10pm. I went twice because my first visit was too late. Everything is wonderful except one thing; Beware there is a staff/owner on the closer side to Kangle Street (康樂街) that is very arrogant and unfriendly. My friend and I went in to his store to admire his traditional Chinese paintings. He wasn’t welcoming at all and ignored us. He eventually told us to leave if we didn’t have any questions to ask him. We felt super unwelcomed and left his store. It’s probably not a good idea to open a store if he doesn’t want random visitors to view and potentially buy his artworks. We don’t exactly know the store name but we saw 蘭亭集序. I’m writing this review in hope to save some people from getting hurt and feeling unwelcomed during their Tainan visit. We searched up the man’s name...
Read moreJust a walking distance from our hotel and we brought our kids for a walk at Shennong Street (神農街), it located at the entrance to the Tainan Five Channels area important river ports from the Qing Dynasty. Merchants at the time would all enter Tainan through this street, making it the busiest district. However, a century of evolution has transformed the original river port into a city road. While the street was formerly in decline due to being old-fashioned and outdated, it has become a hub of culture creation and art distribution in recent years, and it’s now a mecca for young art enthusiasts in Tainan. The shops on both sides of the street are all packed with various handmade product designs. To preserve their original ideas, many of the shopkeepers prohibit photography, so please be mindful of the shop's rules. All of the shops on the street are definitely worth a look, so don't just walk down the street, and be sure to check out...
