江記東門豆花 Dongmen Jiang Ji Douhua — Restaurant in Taipei

Hands down the best tofu pudding (douhua) I’ve had in Taipei (and it’s a shame I just found this place now after all this time?!!)

Anyway, if you are the type of person who likes toppings in your douhua, this is obviously not for you. But if you value tradition and how douhua is made, you’d be glad to make it here even if it’s a little out of the way.

The douhua has the perfect consistency of being creamy but airy. It melts in your mouth but you could still taste the texture of soy being grounded into soymilk then into douhua (at least that’s how I imagine they make it?). The peanuts are beautifully cooked down, soft and sweet. Together with douhua, this reminds me of how it was done back then (well I imagine that’s how my parents remember douhua since they brought me here).
