Wonderful breakfast, child friendly, quite, clean, regretless stay.
Liked · 1. I loved the breakfast. We stayed for 6 days in total, and they provided different breakfast each day! Full of healthy food choices, Chinese and western. All carefully selected and made with great dedication to quality of ingredients. There is fresh ground coffee too but with automatic machine. My favorite was the cherry tomatoes, I guess they are locally grown in Taiwan thus so sweet and fresh. Then the nice selection of bread including small croissants which I can heat up with the small oven and make a nice croissant smoked salmon sandwich. Selection of fresh fruits are also different every day. Kids friendly - they offered my 3 year old son a baby cot at no additional cost, comes with cute little pillow and duvet with animals which my son adored! Their cantine also provided baby chair for my son, with baby utensils and plate, and let him eat the buffet for free! Clean. Bathroom had dry and wet sections partitioned so the shower water won't flow out to the toilet and basin regions. Quiet. I've read a lot of reviews about other hotels being very noisy, with thin walls. I suspect this hotel doesn't have very good sound proofing with the doors cz I can easily hear other rooms' door lock beeping sounds, but the hotel was very quite still, maybe because neighbors were all considerate, and our window is not facing the street. Other facilities that I always make sure a hotel has that this hotel also provides: washing machine, dryer, lift landing on all floors, windows. Other less essential bonus: free bottled water x2 /day, mini fridge, free packet coffee/tea, kettle, free toiletries, hair dryer, VERY strong flow of shower water with hot water running out pretty quickly. Table corners are protected with childproof rounded corners. Fairly spacious, we could fit our large pram and 2 suitcases and still walk around freely. Friendly reception staff.
Disliked · 1. Window couldn't be opened when we tried by ourselves. Seems to be locked. Air con was hard to adjust to the right temperature. I can't choose warm air vs cold air mode, I can only choose the desired temperature, so it'll be sometimes blowing cold air, sometimes hot. Room is very dry due to the aircon. Lights are not working very well, the light bulbs tend to flicker. And even when I turn on all the lights the room is...
Read moreI recently traveled to Taiwan with my wife and 1 year-old daughter and spent two separate stints at this hotel. If I had to rate it on the first stint, I would rate it 1-star. The room was musty, stunk of smoke and mildew, and was generally disgusting. It was unbearable and hard to sleep in.
That said, the price is fantastic and the location is EXTREMELY convenient with easy access to shopping, food, sites, and -- for us -- family. Since we had already reserved the room for a second stint (mid-week trip to Taichung), we decided to roll the dice as my mother, who had a separate room, got a much better draw.
When we returned from Taichung, we found that the second room was MUCH better. The lights all worked, it wasn't musty, it wasn't moist and humid, it didn't reek of mildew...all-in-all, it was a great value for $50/night. I mean, sure, the furniture and decor is straight out of 1990, but at that price right in the heart of Da'an? Totally worth it and much better than the first room.
The biggest problem seems to be that they get a lot of tourists from China staying here and the Chinese don't really care for the rules and will smoke in the rooms so it's hard to tell if you'll end up with a good room or a disgusting room.
As far as the other aspects go, breakfast, while free, was pretty weak. I would pass it up and go into the market nearby or walk down to the market near CKS memorial where there are excellent breakfast vendors to be found. For a quick bite, there's a small sandwich shop that opens in the AM right down the street. For those seeking more western fare, there is also a Starbucks around the corner about a quarter mile walk.
The hotel staff was friendly and helpful and the rooms were cleaned and refreshed every day.
Overall, I would consider staying there again and would recommend it with reservations to others traveling abroad to just know what to expect. It's certainly a great value, but be ready to request a different room if you end up with...
Read moreI stayed here for a few nights towards the end of my trip. prices are decent for a good quality hotel. Great location, transport accessible, local market nearby, plenty of eateries and 10-15 minutes walk to Da’an Park where its livelier. I was dreading having to drag my suitcase up the MRT stairs to street level. However l came out of the wrong exit across the street (exit 3 instead of 2) and it’s the only exit with an escalator. So if you don’t mind crossing the road with your luggage then it’s easier on your arms. Hotel staff were very helpful, something l found typical in Taiwan. I was grateful they provided an iron and toiletries were always topped up. My standard room was a good size enough for 1 person, it was quiet as it didn’t face the main road (thank god) and the beds and pillows were comfy. Rooms were cleaned daily and l like the magnetic signs on the door. No need to hang the signs that might fall off the door handle when it’s turned. They had USB plugs by the sockets which was an excellent idea, however mine didn’t work And WIFI was fast 😏. Breakfast was good Chinese style, plentiful and finishes a bit later than most hotels. Useful if you need some extra time in bed. The breakfast room was a tad small so when it’s busy season, not sure how they’ll accommodate guests. There’s a fruit store that will peel and chop your fruits and box it up. Very useful when you need fruit and don’t have a kitchen. The shop is along that road on the opposite side towards the MRT. Airport cab was easily ordered by staff and turned up right on time. You just pay the driver. I would use this hotel again if l...
