Lazy Day Cafe — Restaurant in Wenshan District

Located not far from the Maokong Gondola station, Lazy Day is a cafe run by the lovely Zhang couple. The decor and vibes are laid back and unpretentious. These vibes are accentuated by the greenery which the seating area overlooks. I tried their dumplings, which Mr and Mrs Zhang wrapped themselves. Delicious in its homemade simplicity.

The tieguanyin (from tea leaves which the Zhangs cultivated) was really smooth with no bitter aftertaste. While Maokong is known for its tea, do also try the coffee from beans which Mr Zhang cultivated. As an added bonus, Mr Zhang brought me around the estate where he explained the processes of harvesting tea leaves and honey on the side.

Do have a chat with the Zhangs if you have the time to do so. You may be surprised by the topics you would dive into. Finally, a shoutout to the generosity of the Zhangs. The cable car (Maokong gondola) service was suspended due to lightning alert. And Mr Zhang offered to drive me to the foot of Maokong.

Great place for a coffee and desserts after you get off at Maokong Gondola! Make a left and walk for less than half a mile once you get off the cable car, you’ll see a little sign saying Lazy Day Cafe and take the stairs down to get to the coffee shop. It’s owned by a super kind and friendly old couple, who greeted us with big smiles and served us beyond delicious ice cream and cheesecake! The homemade ice cream was so creamy that it took us less than a couple minutes to finish. A lovely, lovely, small coffee located just a few steps below the main road near the Maokong station. Located within the forest, this place makes you feel as if you were lost in nature. I have to say that I had an extremely unique experience here. I had too little cash, but the owner insisted that I take whatever I'd like. The lemon cake was gentle and tasty, and the cold brewed coffee was very good. I had a nice conversation with the owner, who was really excited to talk with me.
