Went back for lunch in Jan 2021 as my family and I were in the vicinity.
Each in our party of three ordered a rice bowl with different toppings. One of the bowls ordered was listed as a 'mystery bowl' in the menu. It is a gimmick but nonetheless interesting. The mystery bowl on the day of our visit was a 'Steak Buridon' topped with salmon roes. The other two bowls ordered were 'Volcano Raw Protein' and 'Ox Tongue Buridon', sans rice. We also ordered an ox tail soup as well as an order of fried oyster to share.
I had complimented the ox tail soup in my previous review and this time around the soup was even better as it was more flavorful than the bowl served during my previous visit.
The fried oyster was outstanding. The batter was light and crisp. The oyster was cooked just right with tender flesh and just a tad of running juice.
I cannot comment on the beef in the mystery bowl as I didn't try any. The beef in the Volcano bowl was true to the photo shown in the menu which was cooked medium rare on the rare side. Judging by the standard of medium rare steak, this bowl was quite satisfying.
The ox tongue, while decent, were not quite up to par with the best that I had mainly due to the cut being too thin and the cook time being too long.
In summary, this is a place that I would not hesitate to return. Four stars is a very high rating in my book.
I ordered three appetizers plus the ox tail soup when I dined solo on a weekday for lunch. The place was slightly less than half full.
The seasoning was on the light side to the point that the stewed tendon I ordered tasted very bland. One may consider this style of cooking perfect if one is trying to avoid salty or oily food. I, on the other hand, believe that some seasoning would go a long way towards making it more enjoyable.
I personally think ox tails match up well with light seasoning as the meat and tendon in an ox tail are already flavorful without needing strong seasoning. The tail I had was cooked long enough the meat almost fell off the bone. The soup, as a result, was infused with the requisite flavor without overpowering my senses. As such, the ox tail soup was very satisfying and is worth my recommendation.
The beef mixed with spring onion and raw egg was decent. The sliced beef strips were quite tender and the egg was of high quality. This item, however, is not suitable for those who shy away from raw food. Furthermore, the spiciness of the dish was not advertised nor expected. As much as I liked it, I couldn't quite rate it four stars.
Fried chicken soft bones were mediocre. I ordered the version with cheese. The meat was somewhat dry and flavorless. As it turned out, the "cheese" part was just parmesan cheese bits sprinkled on top of fried chicken soft bones. I had envisioned the batter being cheese flavored. I was sadly mistaken.
This place is located in an alley even though the address creates an impression it is located on a thoroughfare. Google Maps, however, accurately pinpoints...
Read moreLocation is hard to find, is at the behind of building. If you first time there and do not know what to order. I will recommend you to try their "Steak Buridon" most people will order that, is very nice. Trust me. Meat is sweet and about of soy salt which is perfect for me, mixing with the fried garlic is a good combo. I top egg on it as i love my don to have eggs. I rate them 10/10 must try.
Follow by their Beef Tail Soup, the soup is rich and taste really good. Their beef smell is does not overtake the taste. Beef tail meat is also soft too. 8.5/10
Ox Tongue with salt and spring onion Buridon. If you love Ox Tongue, you can try it. I love the texture, but personally i would prefer they cook it like how they cook the Steak Buridon with like soy sauce (some sweet and salty taste). But is still good, but sorry, for taste/seasoning wise i would give 7.5/10. If could be a 10/10 for you out there if you prefer pure Ox Tongue taste with not much season. They do serve appetiser ( apple and juice) and dessert at the end. Slime jelly( i dont know what is that...
Read moreCame here for the first time today. It’s cool to see them doing everything by the bar - from ingredient preparations, cutting meats, to cooking.
We had the oxtail soup, the volcano protein don, and the fried steak fillet buridon. I personally think that there are lots of other great places for the first two, but the fried steak fillet here was good! Excited to come back to try their other things like the steak buridon with fish roe and egg 黒門市場丼, the ox tongue buridon 鹽蔥牛舌丼, as well as, their fried food, sides, and plum wine. Looking forward!!!
We just walked over, so we didn’t really have to go out of our way and it was convenient. It’s a bit sinful, but all of the rice bowls were nice “comfort food” to have. If you’re around the area, it’s a good place for...
