Kanokwan Thai Noodle⠀ Thai Cuisine Restaurant⠀ ⠀ Kap kun krap for the delicious Thai food that you offer!⠀ Lately been in search of authentic food in Taipei (through recommendations all around), and came across this authentic Thai Restaurant. Definitely a must try, and the taste is exactly the same with the cuisine that I have when I was in Thailand. Came at very odd hour for lunch (it was like 3PM) and the shop is nearly full, wow! This small and humble shop (located approx. 7 minutes walk from MRT Songjiang Nanjing) doesn’t have any big banner or name plates, but you won’t miss it for sure from the huge crowd, or your can notice the green awning as well.⠀ ⠀ This restaurant offers a huge range of Thai Cuisine, with its comprehensive menu (both in Thai and Mandarin). Write down your order, pay at the front counter, and just sit back and relax. The owner is Thai, and you’ll get to hear some of them are talking in Thai language as well. There’s even a poster on the wall for Thai Language classes. Haha.⠀ ⠀ 📝Ordered 「泰國冰奶茶」 Thai-style Milk Tea - The taste is spot on and the authentic milk tea that I’ve been craving for so long now. Milky, and sweet, perfect for the weather, and definitely more perfect for your burning tongue.⠀ ⠀ 📝Ordered 「泰國船麵」 Thai Boat Noodle - Awesome, though the size is definitely the small boat noodle that you get from other countries. It’s one big bowl of noodle, packed with awesomeness! You’ll get a various cuts of meats, all in this strong thick soup broth. The noodles soaked all the soup and if you’re like me who love spicy, feel free to take the chili from the table near to the kitchen.⠀ ⠀ 📝Ordered 「涼拌木瓜絲+鹹蛋」 Cold Papaya Salad - At first, it does taste weird to me as I’m not really familiar with this. I was under the impression that it will be dry cold cuts of papaya like how I used to have in Malaysia. Oh boy, I was wrong. You can see every cut of the papaya is coated with the salted egg. The generous amount of papaya salad is definitely a good sidekicks when your tongue is on fire.⠀ ⠀ Will definitely come again to try out...
Read moreAs usual, after I checked in a hotel, I would ask the concierge to recommend a few local eateries close by. The first one I took note of was a small place, not fancy nor looked like a restaurant that was exactly what she described. But it is a busy place.
Less than 5 minutes walked into the alley from the main thorough street, and we saw a queue outside a store front before we could find the inconspicuous store sign. It was a weekday's lunch hours, so there are people crowded in most of the eateries in Taipei city. Naturally, there is a difference between a popular and a none-popular one. Sometimes, a popular one solicits business with very inexpensive menus. Usually, personal experience could decide if it's their good food or their low prices attract customers. The setting there is very unwelcoming. I thought it had 6 metal folding tables lined inside the store sharing with its cooking stand, which looked like a 4-wheel push cart used by the street food vendors. I guess it was their symbolic decor. Tables were fitted in tight spots with the kitchen supply boxes stacked next to us. The air was not pleasant as opposed to good restaurants food should smell like. Every item on the menu is a Thai style dish. But contrary to their names, we didn't taste Thai there nor delicious taste regardless of their ethnic origin. Total disappointment was our only conclusion. After I was shoveling our orders down my pipe, I ordered a cup of coconut drink, thinking, "Well, at least here was something I could relate to that I was consuming Thai style food." Oh well, I was only drinking something, not a hundred percent water. Perhaps I was asking too much from an...
