Read moreThis is an interesting experience for foreigners and a great place to buy fish, vegetables, meat and fruit (in that order).
First: it’s big and there are a few restaurants in and around it that are food and frequented by locals but I go to do my fish, meat & vegetable shopping. Note: some vendors will try to rip off foreigners.
Cleanliness: thisnis where th score drops slightly. Foreigners might get turned off because it isn’t the cleanest place out there but most local fish markets aren’t. I have been to them in NY, Tokyo, Melbourne Australia, a couple in Italy and France and in Ecuador, Panama and Colombia to name a few.
Meat: I buy all meat and Offal here except ground meats. Favorites are mountain chicken, chicken hearts, beef tendon and pork.
Vegetables: best for local vegetables though you will find imported too. There is a large agricultural section that is indoors but I stick with the stalls outside because I know the vendors and they treat me well.
Fish: great for all types of fish. I usually go for shrimp and sashimi/sushi (Taiwanese cuts). I have my favorite stalls but they are tough to describe. You can go to the main mart that is air conditioned and cleaner but it is also quite a bit more expensive. There is a restaurant there and one on the fifth floor of the parking lot.
Fruit: I don’t buy the fruit here because it is a little pricy but it is very fresh. You can get about the same quality elsewhere (Carrefour or RT Mart) and for a bit cheaper. Also there are quite a few fruit vendors who operate illegally. They are the ones with carts so they can run if the...
Read moreI enjoy every second of my visit to Taipei Fish Market. It’s clean, well-organized and very modern. Right next to the wet fish market, they have supermarket and also Japanese standing sushi bar.
Wet Market sells live King Crab, live Stone Crab, live Lobster and other fishes. The staff are very quick to prepare what we choose.
Japanese standing bar serves sushi, fresh sahimi, oysters, uni / sea urchins, and even sake! I only queued for 15 mins to get the table (visited at 5 pm). At 6 pm, they started to get very packed, so better to visit earlier. Per person it costs around NT$ 580 - NT$ 2,000 as they also have premium set menu for NT$ 1,580-1,980 but it’s worth to try. The premium set includes Abalone, fresh Oyster, Uni, and Botan (big shrimp).
I also tried the King Crab, and it was sooooo good! Better to have it now or you might regret.
don’t worry, They have english menu once we...
