The specialty of this place is xiaolongbao(小籠包)and I was told that it’s owner was a chef at the famous Ding Ta Fung. They have a variety of xiaolongbaos such as shrimp with loofah, and sweet ones that serve as desserts. There are additional seatings on the second floor, which was a bit more spacious and stronger AC. You first pick up some side dishes from the open fridge (self-served) before you head upstairs. We had the bamboo shoots (average), cucumbers (average) and the thick seaweeds (above average). We also had the chicken soup and the beef soup. I liked the beef soup as it was very flavorful. The chicken soup was a “meh”. The shrimp and loofah xiaolongbaos were my favorite. I believe this place was better than Ding Tai Fung in many ways. There was a couple of foreign guests while we were there and at least one of the servers spoke passing English so you will be fine here even if you don’t speak Chinese...
Read moreThis was my second time visiting this dim sum spot for lunch, and it seems to be a popular choice! The place was quite busy, so there was a bit of a queue, but thankfully it moved quickly and I only had to wait around 5-10 minutes to get a table. Once seated, however, the food did take a little while to arrive. While I understand it was a busy lunchtime, the wait felt slightly longer than expected. Regarding the dim sum itself, it was generally okay. The fillings were decent, but I found the wrappers to be a little on the thicker side. While one or two dishes were fine, eating a larger quantity did start to feel a bit heavy and could get a little overwhelming. Overall, the meal was pretty okay. It wasn't the best dim sum I've ever had, but it was a satisfying lunch. However, the slightly longer wait for the food and the thicker wrappers preventing me from enjoying a wider variety were...
Read moreThis is a fantastic XLB spot. The baos are a bit on the smaller and lighter side but I’m a huge fan. My boyfriend and I got two orders - original and shrimp and sigua and they were so good. We def could have ordered one more rack bc they were quite small. The dough was also super thin but chewy- just the way I prefer so you can rly savor the soup and the fillings :,)
This is merely a personal preference so not really a critique but I wish they had also offered dark / black vinegar! I grew up eating XLB with black vinegar so the white vinegar didn’t rly quite hit the spot.
Def coming back the next...
