FOREIGNERS BE AWARE, IF THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CHEAT YOU, THEY ARE GOING TO TRY. After a good dining experience, we decided to come back to this restaurant for lunch. There was no free table on the ground floor so we were seated upstairs from where the big price lists they have put up are not visible. This was a good opportunity to give us an English Menu which was different than the one we had got on our first visit WITH SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER PRICES! For 8000 TSH (instead of 5000 TSH on the regular menu), we got a very small and terrible vegetable soup tasting like peppered water with a small amount of defrozen peas and carrots. The fruit platter for 5000 TSH also did not meet our expectations at all. It consisted of a papaya cut into two halfes, an unpealed banana and two pieces of watermelon presented without any care. I have also never paid 2000 TSH for a small bottle of water in Tanzania before. After paying my bill (unfortunately I had already done!), I compared the prices to the ones shown at the ground floor and realized we in fact were cheated with a different menu for foreigners. So i talked to the manager who did not show any undestanding but told us that the menu had recently changed (even the "old" menus we got 2 weeks before were still there and in use and also the big price list showed different prices). So our visit at the restaurants left us with a very bad...

A nice cozy place well situated at the city centre. Food was okay but I want to talk about service: we were so dissappointed as we received the worse service from this hotel or restaurant. Staff were unwelcoming and hostile. We were invite to sit in a tiny area with no windows and air condition was switched off while we were still having dinner! It was hot and with heavy atmisphere. We had children who suffered more and were crying. The stuff were not even apologetic after we confronted them about the situation. The Manager could not help ro solve the problem. Seems remote control for ac is a property of one person and he has a right to switch on and off air condition as he please, that is what he told us later. He was so disrespectful to us and shouting at us! We were shocked really! So we had to leave very unsatisfied with this restaurant. We spent almost 100k. This is message to the owner so to be aware that customers need to be treated...

In a rapidly developing city with plenty of modern options, Chef's Pride keeps their menu traditionally and proudly East African. The meats are freshly sourced from a local butcher; the lamb I had was sourced that same morning. I had the lamb biryani, and was impressed by the succulence and tenderness of the meat. Be aware that at least in the afternoon, this place was packed with diners, so you may have to wait for a table to open. But the food is most definitely worth the wait. This is an restaurant where locals dine, so you know this is a truly Dar es Salaam establishment.

Chef's Pride is the Place to taste swahili food and specialities of the west of the Indian ocean. Maandazi, kuskuma (chapati), pilau, biriyani, various michuzi (curries and stews of goat, beef, mutton, seafood...), ugali, bananas .. Here you experience how the swahili dish should feel and taste. Be prepared to share your table if you're alone or two. At lunch this is the family dinings room of the office workers and professionals of the neighborhood. In the evening you may enjoy your table for long time sipping a fresh juice. The place may be rated Genuine Good.
