Starting out with the positives. Lovely ambiance and very aesthetically pleasing. It really is a beautiful space. In addition to that, the food we ordered was good. I had the shrimp pasta and my mom had the full English breakfast. I would say the portions are good too. The cons, unfortunately we were let down by the drinks and the service. I had the lemon ice tea that pretty much tasted like sour lemonade, maybe some syrup or less lemons would make it more appealing. Additionally the service was a little strange. They weren’t really busy so I was confused when it took long to receive the menus, and get our order taken. The server also took my moms order for breakfast and didn’t ask her what eggs she wanted which was a first. It appeared to me that good service was based on who you got and we did end up changing the server to one who was far more attentive. I would have given the place 4 stars but the biggest con is the WiFi. I just feel like it’s kind of customary at this point for coffee shops to have WiFi because a lot of people go there to work. Especially in a place like this. However. It was not working which was a shame.

We come here occasionally for breakfast and it usually goes well. The food is good, we like the service. But today something went wrong. We ordered ginger tea, asked for honey and lemon to be brought separately, they brought us in cracked dishes, some of the cracks showed the stuck contents of the previous order. Why do you serve in such a glass ? it's horrible. There was a lot of ginger in the tea, it was impossible to drink, it was very spicy. We had to dilute it. In addition, the kettle was dirty and we decided to refuse it and asked to bring us another tea. The staff did not react in any way, they dealt with this situation among themselves for a long time, but no one came to us. Another tea was silently brought to us only after 10 minutes, without teaspoons and sugar. We did not want to ask for anything anymore, the waiter did not show any attention to us. The croissant with omelette and waffles with Nutella were cooked for 30 minutes, and there were not many people in the cafe, usually this food is cooked much faster. We like this place, but today our visit was not very pleasant for us.

I've been to Orchid on multiple occasions, often forgetting to take pictures during most of my visits until recently. My visits range from using the cafe as a workspace to business meetings and even dinners with friends or a late weekend brunch. Workspace and meetings: A significant portion of their customers utilize the cafe for work or business meetings. You can stay as long as you want until you order something. However, it might get crowded at times, and finding a power socket could be challenging. Additionally, the WiFi was not working the last time I visited. Dinner: I ordered Tagliatelle with chicken and mushrooms in a creamy sauce, something like chicken alfredo. The pasta was al dente, and the sauce was creamy and filling. Brunch: I ordered eggs benedict at one instance and a full breakfast set at another. The eggs benedict was disappointing as the muffin was dry, and even the hollandaise sauce looked unappetizing. The breakfast set wasn't anything special for me to still remember it.

A fantastic place for breakfast, brunch, or a quick lunch with a friend. || Food || Had the Egg Scrambler Wrap (15,000 TShs), Full English Breakfast (18,000 TShs), Classic Waffle (11,000 TShs), and a strawberry milkshake (10,000 TShs). Everything was made perfectly. || Ambiance || It’s a large, lovely space. Most of the seating is indoors. But there are a few tables outside. Most of the seating is for small groups (2-4 people) so it’s best for 1-on-1 breakfast/lunch meetings or a solo outing. There are a few larger tables for groups. But this place is BUSY make a reservation in advance. || Service || The wait staff are attentive, will write down and repeat your order, and are very welcoming. Though I recommend sitting inside. If you sit outside, service becomes noticeably slower. || Parking || There’s lots of parking space and it’s on the main road, so accessibility is not an issue. I got served waffles with cough syrup! They have a great menu but unfortunately my order of waffles and strawberries was disappointing. I got one very dry waffle with a side of cough syrup (aka strawberry sauce). I didn't use the syrup which probably made my one miserable waffle even drier. It would have been so much better had they served with maple syrup, honey or even a sugar syrup! On the other hand, my husbands Orchid breakfast which was eggs Benedict and (very little) chicken was delicious! The portions are way to small considering the price. And the wait for the food is very long! But I've yet to go to a restaurant in Dar where your order comes under 30mins. The cakes section is pretty much for cheesecake lovers only. So if you're like me and can't stand cheesecake, look for somewhere for your cake craving! Went on a Saturday and it was very busy and packed. Difficult to find a table in fact.

Update to review - Unfortunately Orchid in 2024 is not how I remember it. I don't know what's happened but the service is really bad. I won't be coming here again after my previous two experiences here. There is one waiter in particular who is bald and for whatever reason decides to count the money in front of you. I've told him twice don't do this to me as I don't think it's professional. I will not be coming back to Orchid again. The service is really bad these days. Shame it used to be good. Orchid is a nice new addition to the café scene in Dar. I normally cone here for brunch with my husband after church. Excellent French toast, waffles. They have an amazing salted caramel milkshake. Their margherita pizza is affordable and tasty. I recommend this place. It's worth it.
