Disappointed After Years of Being a Loyal Customer
I’ve been a loyal patron of Thai Kini for almost two years, always appreciating the great location at Slipway and the food—until my recent visit, which was incredibly disappointing.
I visited with my family and ordered Pad Thai Chicken and Pad Thai Vegetable noodles. What followed was a frustrating experience: • Service was painfully slow. It took over 45 minutes to get our food. The staff seemed inattentive, with long delays between taking the order and serving. • Shockingly small portion for the Pad Thai Vegetable noodles. It was barely enough for a child and looked like it could’ve been leftover from another plate. • The Pad Thai Chicken noodles were chewy and rubbery, lacking the usual freshness and texture. Overall, both dishes were a letdown.
We raised our concerns with the waitress and manager, who were polite and responded promptly. However, the replacement serving was still subpar: the portion size was reduced, the taste was greasy and unbalanced, and the sauce seemed excessive, giving the dish a darker and overly oily appearance.
I didn’t escalate further as we had already wasted too much time, but I left feeling deeply disappointed. The quality, portion control, and overall kitchen standards appear to have declined sharply.
Given how much I used to enjoy dining here, this experience was truly disheartening. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously. I may consider returning only if there’s visible...

On both occasions we were made to wait nearly 30 mins for the food and completely ignored by staff, who are poorly trained compared to other restaurants in Dar es Salaam. They did not seem to care about the customer and on both instances when we requested mild meals, we received extremely spicy meals without the flavour that is typical of Thai food
However the worst part of our experience was that we were charged for a completely different meal which was 12,000 shillings more expensive. When we raised the issue with staff we were told that "the machine is unable to change the price and I will have to personally pay for your meal. Please so not start an argument and can you pay the 12,000 difference. We would appreciate it".
I've travelled extensively in Asia, Africa and Australia and never have I heard this sort of thinly veiled excuse for cheating customers. Thank you for leaving a bitter aftertaste to an otherwise...
Read moreThe service was terrible. We had to wait almost 30 minutes to get our table as the staff forgot to confirm our booking. We finally got seated at 8pm. Starters didn’t come out till past 9:30 and we were not informed of any issue in the kitchen till we had to ask a few times and physically get up and go in. Turns out the gas wasn’t working. We were with 4 very young children who didn’t eat and were very troubled before finally sleeping. If we were told earlier on we may have moved somewhere else. There was no apology or any compensation on the initial bill and 10% was only offered after we raised a complaint. Not good enough. We left after 11pm and not because we were having a good time but because the food took so long. The person in charge was not apologetic or even willing to acknowledge the inconvenience that was caused and made us feel like we were being difficult. Had a very poor and dismissive attitude.
