After our 16-hour-journey from Germany to Bangkok we decided to stay in the Shanti Lodge for four nights
If you prefer living in a quiet, authentic neighborhood but at the same time central - Shanti Lodge is the perfect place for you. Within a twenty-minutes-walk you find yourself on Bangkok‘s most famous road for backpackers, the Khao San Road. For those who do not want to walk, it‘s possible to take a boat that takes about 5-10 minutes to the city center. The boat station is about five minutes away from the Hotel. In general we would recommend to use the boat to get to the temples, markets ecc (it‘s a cheap and fun way to see Bangkok). The neighborhood of Shanti Lodge offers several possibilities to eat. There are a lot of local street food places to experience the extraordinary Thai cuisine. The food at the Shanti Lodge is delicious as well - especially breakfast. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and cosy, the hotel has a laundry service. Moreover I would like to emphasize the positive, cosy atmosphere in the restaurant and lobby (there are a lot of plants)! Summarized: Shanti Lodge is the perfect place to stay for a few...
Read moreI got a private room. It was lovely. up two narrow flights of stairs, nicer than I planned for. (Ask for lower room if that is an issue) it was easy to walk across the fish market to the ferry that went to all the spots. There was always a tut tut or taxi to be found. They thought of everything sending an email about where to get public transit or a taxi at the airport in exactly how much to pay and how not to get conned. They arranged travel to the airport at the end of my trip. But more importantly, it was the perfect homebase. Beautiful interesting, in a neighborhood half a block from a temple or a fish market, easy to travel from nice, to come home to. Happy the host asked if I would rather sit with the other solo travelers and then took me over and introduced me, starting interesting conversations. The couple with the small children had a place for the children to play on the other side of the restaurant, often with the toddler of the woman working there and I watch them get all the recommendations they needed for a lovely trip. Best to book on their website and skip the...
Read moreGreat budget friendly hotel in a great location. I gave this hotel five stars because it’s such a great value for the money. Walking distance to the main tourist area but still far enough so it’s very quiet and nice local neighborhood. Just a few meters away from the orange flag ferry which for only 16 baht will take you to the tourist area. We stayed 7 nights in the air conditioned room with private bathroom. The owner was wonderful and gave us a free upgrade! The room was very small but very clean and cozy, bathroom was nice and clean. Hotel has a great atmosphere in the reception/ restaurant area and great place to relax and drink a beer. We did not eat at the restaurant so I don’t have any recommendations. The Wi-Fi works great thoughout the hotel and always had a strong signal. The only slightly negative thing was that the bed was a little on the hard side and slightly noisy, but it didn’t bother me much as I slept great every night! If you are looking for a budget friendly hotel in a great location then I highly recommend this beautiful hotel. We enjoyed...
