Some of the best, local coffee in Chiang Mai with a very un-local crowd. This is one of the more popular cafes in Chiang Mai, and its coffee definitely explains why. In my opinion, Akha Ama isn’t extremely accommodable for working, unlike many of the Chiang Mai cafe guides might say. The chairs are all hard and wooden and tables are pretty small. The area indoors is the only place with outlets. And there aren’t many. They play pretty intense music early in the morning and throughout the day as well. This may have been a unique experience on my two visits, but something I definitely noticed. Akha Ama attracts a lot of nomads and expats, and several of them like having loud conversations about their blogs and projects.
Tips: Get the cold brew Come here for their great coffee but don’t stay too long to work. Avoid this place on hot days. Most of their...
Read moreSo I've walked past this place several times never went in. With so many coffee places here it's hard to stand out. But akha ama does and should. Not only is the warm all wood environment inviting. But it's one few coffee places, that's not just doing espresso. Ask for a drip coffee here and you usually get blank stares. So not only do they do pour overs they do it using a chemex. So your sure to get a great cup of properly extracted coffee. They also have cold brew in bottles for 80 bhat. Super tasty. Most cold brew I've had just taste like water. Lastly if your like me, you bring a French press or pour over and hand grinder with you. But where to find good beans. Not only are all the beans from local sources. They have different roast including light, which has also been hard to find. The place is a hidden...
Read moreMy favourite specialty cafe in Chiang Mai. There are 2 or 3 other cafes in town that have same or even slightly better quality of coffee, but with Akha Ama you will be satisfied even as a coffee nerd as me. They also have better prices than anyone else, for a cappucino, latte, flat white you pay 50 baht. Other cafes charge from 60 to even 110. The place itself has a nice atmosphere where you can easily sit around for 1-2 hours reading a book, doing some work kn your laptop etc. The staff is very kind and you dont get the impression at all that they are stressed or something, even when the place is busy. Another big plus is that they are pretty much the only place in Chiang Mai that dont use plastic straws, instead they have stainless steel ones. Take away cups they still have plastic though....only...
