This morning, I planned to grab a coffee to-go before heading to the airport. Tried my first cup, I liked it and ordered a second one. While waiting, we were the only customers so casually took photos. But I accidentally knocked over about 1/3 of my coffee, mostly on clothes, some on the carpet. The plastic takeaway cup had no lid for some reason. We immediately wiped the spill and apologized repeatedly, but the male owner got angry. The female owner showed us a carpet cleaning receipt from last year and demanded 1,850 THB, saying carpet for the whole store needed cleaning. We had very little cash left since it was our last 2.5 hrs in Chiang Mai, and we didn’t bring a credit card for this short trip. We offered an online transfer, but she said they didn’t have one. She then suggested we could pay 1,000, or settle it after returning to Singapore, but the male owner refused. He also didn’t allow us to go back to the hotel together to get money. I had to stay while my boyfriend rushed back to the hotel. At the time, I was fully focused on apologizing and didn’t realize the owner had LOCKED the door until my boyfriend returned! We spent around 30 mins there, despite explaining multiple times that we had a flight to catch and showed my ticket. The female owner had suggested reasonable solutions multiple times, but the male owner overruled them all. In the end, we scraped together around 1,200 - 1,300 from all our remaining cash and even coins before they finally let us go. Luckily we didn't have checked baggage and did online check-in yesterday, otherwise we'll definitely miss the flight! At the time, I felt guilty and kept apologizing. The owner insisted that cleaning the carpet would disrupt their business, which made me feel even worse. However, after returning to SG, I saw similar complaints about him and realized how absurd the situation was. We were genuinely sorry for the accident, but this experience completely ruined our impression...
Read moreIt was a rainy season and the area in front of the shop was muddy. We accidentally stepped on some dirt before walking in. As soon as we realized, we apologized immediately and were even ready to leave, fully understanding this might be a higher-end place.
But what happened next was truly disappointing — the staff started sweeping right in front of us, as if to chase us away. In our culture (especially for those of us from Hong Kong), this kind of gesture feels very insulting, like telling people to get out. It wasn’t just about cleanliness — it felt personal, as if they wanted to humiliate us.
(We are really sorry for getting your carpet dirty U can sweep ur lovely carpet when we get out bro)
We came in with a good mood, just for some coffee, but left feeling deeply offended. When you run a restaurant or café, the first thing you should offer is basic respect to every guest, no matter who they are.
The coffee itself? Honestly, five stars — no complaints at all. But the service? Zero stars. My friend and I were offended badly. If the barista was having a bad day, that’s understandable — but taking it out on customers is not.
The first thing you should have when you’re going to open a restaurant is manners. Simple as that. :)
Good coffee alone isn’t enough to make up for being treated poorly. We left feeling uncomfortable and disappointed.
Great coffee — but with this kind of attitude, no taste can save...
Read moreExperience with infant was really bad. Upon arrival the waiter shoved in my face a piece of paper that said "the place is small so strollers are not allowed". It felt weird as she didnt say anything, just showed me the paper. Anyhow - I am thinking fine, no problem, I get it. Let me pack the stroller - we have the ultra light one, that packs like small cabin luggage. But she insisted it has to stay outside. Why? People had backpacks with them there, same size :-D Really inflexible behaviour.
Anyway, so we're inside, stroller is packed on the sidewalk outside (lol). They have long seating (bench) alongside the window, with two tables. So we're sitting there, but when you accidentaly lean on the windows - the waitress promptly comes to tell you not to lean on the window. Why you make freaking seating there, then? :-D
I hated the atmosphere and I only stayed because I was meeting friends and didnt want to bother them going elsewhere. I am surely not...
