It was not surprising this museum was not crowded as it feels a bit hidden away in a blue 2-story wooden house behind the large folk museum, directly across the street from 3 Kings monument plaza. Second floor had an exhibition on historical photos of Chiang Mai. The collection was arranged somewhat by theme, with popular life photos which showed fashion and activities when a dance club or music venue opened in the city. Other rooms shared photos of war time, famous people visiting Chiang Mai, and festival celebrations. I really liked this being in an old house. Take off your shoes outside and leave them at ground level at the base of the stairs. To be able to wander in socks feet across the old wooden floor boards, enjoying black and white moments captured in film was nice. The pictures are old and the indoor / outdoor nature of the house probably doesn't aid preservation, but it's a great way to see how Chiang Mai has changed.

If you need somewhere to shelter from the rain, you can consider it as it is free admission. You use the main entrance gate of Lanna Folk Museum to enter the compound, this house is situated on the right side of the museum. This old house has two floors. There are a few old photos in Ground floor. It will be more interesting if some information of the photos was provided to give context and background. Currently there is a temporary exhibition about a tall building in KL Malaysia on the 2nd floor. It takes about ten minutes to do it all.

Photographic exhibitions regularly change here, and many of them are very good. Always worth popping in to see what's on. Completely free. the Chiang Mai House of Photography occupies 2 floors. Very easy to find opposite the Three Kings monument. I've just returned from another visit a year later. Featured today was a comprehensive collection of pictures taken approximately a century ago in Chiang Mai. They showed the profound changes compared with today. Sadly, there were only Thai captions, and no English.
