Staying at Saii Laguna next door, popped in here for drinks and dinner. Great atmosphere, live music, fabulous location.
It's really cute, gorgeous setting and big swing out the front that kids love. Drinks weren't too expensive but the food is interesting.
It is catered for "western" Thai pallets and it's not as authentic as proper, local Thai food unless you do one thing ...
We ordered prawn tempura - not great. They weren't in tempura batter, they were pre-bought manufactured prawn meat in breadcrumbs.
Larb gai came and that should be easy for a Thai place to do but the spice level and flavours were way lower than what they should be. Bear that in mind as it may be ok for those not wanting too much spice/heat, but it wasn't how a traditional larb gai should be.
Final dish - we called the lovely waitress over and asked what she would eat. She picked a dish and we said to tell her that we want the chef to cook it traditional Thai way and not for tourists.
It was fabulous (first one down on bigger plates) and completely different to the other food we had. It was excellent and packed full of flavour.
So.... Beautiful place, great atmosphere. Food is not traditional and catered for the western/tourist taste buds *unless you specifically ask for it not to be".

Read moreWe love going to Beach Pig but this Sunday was a disappointment.
We tried to order food but were told we could not order from the main menu, no reason given. We asked the waitress to check with Ben the boss, then had to wait over ten minutes for the waitress to return with the same menu but she had taken the main menu page out. When we told her that wasn't very nice of her she left us, just walked away.
My kids were very hungry so we finally ordered from the rest of the menu but it took very long and my sons chili con carne fries were basically french fries with a slight sprinkle of beans & sauce. My son wasn't happy about it. My lime fish had three slices of lime and had no taste. The chicken wings were ok but we still couldn't figure out why we could order thai herb chicken wings and not the regular chicken wings my son likes.
I hope this is not a trend and is a one-off. It was not a fun time for us and the 2,000 baht weren't paid...
Read moreThe Beach Pig was one of the best places we have visited in Bang Tao. Everything you could need in a beach but bar. The vibe was perfect, great view of the sunset & occasionally they play live music (weekends perhaps).
The drinks were so good, I had the virgin Lina colada and it was amazing! My friend had the regular Pina colada and it also didn't disappoint.
The food was next level, I asked for a recommendation for a Thai curry and was told they could do me a Lamb Massama if they had lamb available (lamb option wasn't on the menu) the curry was probably the best curry I've ever tried in terms of flavour and the lamb was cooled so well.
The staff were very easy going and were able to customise our orders to suit us.
Would love to visit this again, definitely visit if you are going to Bang Toa - the location is great too as there are lots of cool bars...
