La Trattoria — Restaurant in Choeng Thale

With great hope we walked slowly to this supposed emporium of great cuisine as advertised in the hotel on flyers. The great chef……arrival was acceptable but then wanting to eat inside the room was barren and cold. Presented with menus what a surprise an Italian restaurant with barely any Italian pasta dishes. Very poor choice of food and wine. No simple spaghetti with oil and chilli and garlic or pomodoro. Eventually I made a choice of goats cheese salad which when it came was good. I had chosen out of pressure of nil on menu risotto al funghi as had two others. The younger party members chose pizza which arrived floppy and dry.No pizza oven near them. The risotto arrived and whilst I am a fan of al dente being of Italian heritage it was al raw! We sent back. It then returned and was better expect for the large inedible uncooked ceps. It was not the best risotto but being hungry we all ate. Another member ordered the chicken which was ok. The vegetables with it were watery and tasteless. Considering the place was barely full this level of food is totally unacceptable. The chef after we complained came out and argued with us about the risotto. As a professional in this trade I find that unacceptable. The wine list was poor. Oh and yes what’s with putting sliced radish on everything?…. A exceedingly poor and awful meal. It was not very good food. This is also the breakfast buffet area where the food is good. But the Italian food was not good. Bad pasta and pizza, the wine is ok.

We ordered pizza but it was not up to mark, we had MUCH better Italian the next day at Zurich Cafe. The pasta was not edible. The grilled chicken was better but unforgettable. The service was also slow and painful. The sorbet crystallised and I stopped eating it. I did not take any photos because of the experience.

On a side note, in the morning they have a breakfast Buffett here. The buffet is very good and delicious but it is made the Laguna restaurant in the same hotel where the this restaurant is. The difference between food in morning and at dinner is literally...
