2024 Feb - 5 years later and Tawai still offers consistency and high quality ingredients which makes it my favourite Phuket restaurant. We pay a premium but I gladly pay it.

Tried a few different (cheaper and Michelin) restaurants and quickly learned that Tawai is great value for money because of its high quality.

Those that comment you can find cheaper Thai food are correct and we did, but were perpetually dissapointed with size of (tiny) shrimp or lesser quality of squid and fish or not getting the correct order which was very frustrating.

Invariably we came back to Tawai for our favourite dishes and to try new ones and never felt dissapointed.

I would venture to say our love of Thai food is in many ways thanks to Tawai..

2019 - I won't say this is the best restaurant in the Laguna area because "best" is subjective depending what you're looking for.

I can say this is my favourite restaurant and these are the dishes that by comparison with other Thai restaurants set Tawai apart in terms of flavour which is sometimes subtle, sometimes strong or well balanced as the dish requires it.

I have had the best papaya salad (well balanced, lots of peanuts), shrimp with lemongrass salad (divine really), green curry, massamam beef curry (very rich and peanuty), panang curry, steamed fish with lemon sauce.

The Tom Kha soup is delicious, not sickly coconut heavy but somehow sweet, subtle and sour at the same time - you won't find a better one.

The mango with sticky rice pudding is out of this world: large fresh mangos, rich coconut cream and comforting warm sticky rice.

We ate here almost every day for 2 weeks and this is our second year coming back.

The service is super friendly (the lady who served us knew exactly what we wanted) and yes is a bit more expensive than the "rustic" options but it's clean, they understand English, the chefs are amazing and consistent and it's overall a risk free, pleasant experience and good value for the quality of...

Place: air-conditioned with open air seats (for individual choice) that specialises in thai seafood dish based cuisine. Free WiFi is available here.

Service: Waiters were very responsive and spoke understandable English. Good recommendations given considering this is the first time I was here.

Food: I'd just say that it's as real as Thai food can be! Wasn't expecting anything less. For those who are a little less brave, such as yours truly, they're ever willing to reduce the spice level to very bearable levels. Thanks! But a fair warning to all who are not used to thai food, all their foods, and i mean ALL have a sweet base. So, don't be overwhelmed! But if you like strong and bold flavours, rich in herbs and spices, this is the...

Enjoyed dinner at Tawai on a rainy Friday night. All seating is outdoors and undercover with lots of fans to stir the air, however no aircon. They have an extensive menu and we settled on Satay Chicken for Entree (8 satays), beef massaman curry and chicken and cashew nut with steamed rice for mains and then sticky mango rice for dessert. This was plenty of food for two if us and in fact we could have shared a dessert as it was a full mango in the serve. Meals were all hot and tasty without being amazing. In fact, the beef in massaman was a bit tough. They have a full wine list and extensive drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) menu. Prices seemed quite reasonable and on a Friday night it was convenient to the...
